The Best Places to Sip in Hunt Country

Virginia’s bucolic Hunt Country offers a plethora of ideal places to imbibe. Whether you are on the hunt for a delicious glass of red and stunning vineyard views or a lively brewery perched atop a mountain, serving up an extensive menu of craft brews, there are many options to choose from. Read on for a few of our can’t miss places to sip, and don’t forget to tell them The Scout Guide sent you!

BREWERIES & CIDERIES

Bear Chase Brewing Company (33665 Bear Chase Lane, Bluemont). A view too good to pass up, Bear Chase is situated way up on the mountaintop and boasts an absolutely giant back lawn with picnic tables, lawn games and photo-op galore. Instagram

Dirt Farm Brewing (18701 Foggy Bottom Road, Bluemont). More views! Dirt Farm has their own extensive beer collection, along with food trucks who are often parked outside the brewery and are always, always devastatingly delicious. It helps to mention here that Dirt Farm Brewing is perched atop a mountain and looks out over a stunning valley. Instagram

Lost Barrel Brewing (36138 John Mosby Highway, Middleburg). Fun, gorgeous farm brewery right outside of Middleburg. Complete with trivia nights and a large outdoor seating area, it is an excellent choice for weekend getaways with a bunch of beer-loving friends! Their extensive beer menu features everything from porters to sours to stouts! Taking the BrewHouse tour isn’t so bad either. Instagram

Old Ox Brewery (4 South Madison Street, Middleburg). We love this brewery and its pub-like feel on one of Middleburg’s fab side streets. True to their name, Old Ox’s beers all bear a similar title, but vary greatly in taste and style. There is always something going on at Old Ox! Instagram

WINERIES & VINEYARDS

RdV Vineyards (2550 Delaplane Grade Rd, Delaplane). If you go to one winery, this is the one not to be missed. Breathtaking views and architecture surpassed only by the quality of their wines. Arguably the best wine in Virginia. Tastings are by reservation only and be sure to ask about their membership. Instagram

Greenhill Vineyards (23595 Winery Lane, Middleburg). Another one for the wine tour, Greenhill is a popular spot for a day trip. A beautiful view in all seasons, we are partial to a fall/winter visit to enjoy a glass of their blanc de blanc by the fire pits. Instagram

BARS

Tasting Room at the Blue Rock (12567 Lee Highway, Washington). The Tasting Room at Blue Rock is beautiful and offers some very fun options for a different kind of cocktail hour: flights! Choose between wine, tequila, scotch or whiskey flights, and sit back and enjoy. Instagram

The Night Fox Pub at the Red Fox Inn (2 East Washington Street, Middleburg). Looking for something with that genuine Hunt Country charm? Look no further than the Night Fox at the historic Red Fox Inn and Tavern. The ideal place to cozy up to the bar on a balmy early spring night, the Night Fox is rich with pre-dinner cocktails, nightcaps and a superb glass of wine. Instagram

The Whole Ox (8357 West Main Street, Marshall). If you’re not sipping on something tasty while enjoying the equally delicious spicy chicken sandwich here, you’re not doing it right. The Whole Ox is a splendid spot for cocktail hour, boasting a butcher-shop-turned-market interior right along Marshall’s main street. With a wide selection of wines and local brews, this is a can’t-miss spot. Instagram

Tremolo Bar (19 East Washington Street, Middleburg). Brand new and right in the center of quaint little Middleburg, this modern wine bar is a wonderful place to enjoy a shared plate and a wide selection of wines. Absolutely best date night material. Instagram
