Meet Nelina Loiselle
Nelina Loiselle, who grew up riding horses and obsessed with magazines, may be the only person to start their Architectural Digest subscription at age 12. When it came time to relocate the sustainable design firm she co-founded from the Midwest to the East Coast, she made certain they landed in Virginia’s horse country. With a background in design, marketing, and social media working with fellow entrepreneurs, becoming editor of The Scout Guide Hunt Country is a perfect fit and a dream come true. Nelina loves promoting all things local and sharing in the delight of those discovering Hunt Country for the first time.
Nelina’s Favorite Reasons to Visit
Town & Country: With the most land conservation easements in the country, we are awash in endless idyllic views of rolling fields, horse pastures, stone walls, and working farms. Nestled amongst them are charming historic towns — each filled with unique shops, galleries, and food. It’s the perfect balance of town and country life.
Horses & Dogs: These animals are the heart of the Hunt Country lifestyle. From polo matches and world-class equestrian games during the summer to fox-hunting and carriage rides in the winter, there is always a horse event to watch or partake in. Be sure not to miss the oldest horse show in the country, The Upperville Horse Show, which takes place the first week of June. We love dogs, too! You can bring your dog to nearly every shop and café; canines are even welcome in our local post office.
Wine & Food: As DC’s premier wine region, Hunt Country offers hundreds of vineyards. For the perfect afternoon, pack up some picnic fare from a local market and hit a few vineyards, or check out our booming brewery scene. Driving the scenic country roads between each stop is half the fun. End a day of wine or beer tasting with dinner at one of our farm-to-table restaurants where chefs show off our abundance of local food.
