Meet: Attwood Equestrian Surfaces

Equestrians across the country enlist the expertise of Attwood Equestrian Surfaces to deploy top-of-the-line, high performance and safe arena footing for their training facilities and especially for their equine athletes. We absolutely loved working with them to capture the perfect moment of a horse’s movement across their amazing arena footing! For over twenty five years, the Hunt Country-based company has specialized in innovative arena footing and arena products to keep equine athletes safe, fit and happy.

We caught up with Nick Attwood, founder and owner, for a quick Q+A to get to know Attwood Equestrian Surfaces!

TSG: How did you get started in your business?

NICK: I worked for a sports surfaces company and saw a need for a more advanced equestrian footing. This gave me the opportunity to combine my love of horses with my love of science.

TSG: What do you love most about working in Hunt Country?

NICK: It’s such a beautiful area and reminds me of my home in England. I love being able to connect with the local community!

TSG: What is your favorite aspect of your work?

NICK: Our company is structured to feel more like a family and I really enjoy that.  I love being able to come up with new and innovative ideas.

TSG: What are some of your favorite local spots in Hunt Country?

NICK: The Great Meadow Foundation in the Plains always has so many fun events!

TSG: What are some recent or new projects or products at Attwood Equestrian Surfaces?

NICK: We just launched our new Curved Kick Walls and are working on a new project to create more environmentally friendly watering systems. We are also working on an Attwood all-weather gallop track. The idea for the gallop track is that the horses can train no matter what the outdoor conditions are. The ground can be rock hard or we can have a typhoon and it’s muddy and the horses can always train on a consistent footing.

Attwood Equestrian Surfaces offers a wide variety of footing options like Pinnacle: Attwood’s premium footing blend, Pinnacle is a proprietary blend that contains polymered sand and requires no watering and is completely dust-free. They also offer products like Arenamat and Arenawet: Arenamat is a base mat system that keeps footing in place and provides extra cushioning to protect the horse’s tendons. Arenawet is an innovative arena watering system that waters footing from underneath and saves up to 70% more water than traditional methods!

TSG: Is there any insider advice you would give to your clients or customers?

“Good arenas can last for years and years, it really is an investment. Regular correct maintenance can have your arena performing at its best for a very long time.”

-Nick Attwood
