As the Editors at The Scout Guide Triad, we tend to keep up with the latest and greatest in the Triad area. Every month, we are going to do a round up of businesses, events, and products that we think deserve your attention.  This month we are going to look at the creative options that many of our local businesses came up with to survive the pandemic.

The Loaded Grape “Virtual Vines” Wine Tastings

Every month since the start of the pandemic, our friends at The Loaded Grape have been doing virtual wine tastings.  They offer these programs live but also have them on The Loaded Grape Youtube channel if you can’t make the scheduled broadcast. We have really appreciated the innovative nature of these tastings, especially during the worst of the crisis when we were all terrified to leave the house. It instilled camaraderie during an uncertain time and their jovial nature and deep knowledge of wine made everything a little more bearable.  The wines they sample are available in the store and they happily offer curbside. .

1618 Concepts

Nick Wilson, Lauren Donohue and team did a phenomenal job keeping their businesses going during the pandemic. When the restaurants were shut down due to the government mandate, Nick and crew got in there and started meal delivery service to your home. They have since expanded into offering a catered delivery menu for special events (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, etc) and our understanding is they plan to continue offering these services for the foreseeable future. We personally take advantage of their special events and weekly delivery menus as often as possible and suggest you give it a try if you are in the Greensboro area. You can find more information here.

ABBA Design Flower Delivery Service

It will not come as a shock to anyone that Scout Guide Triad is obsessed with all things floral from Tonya Morris at ABBA Design. She is our “go to” for all events, both Scout and personal. Understandably, the events industry was hit particularly hard during the government shutdown and the continued restrictions on events. However, Tonya swiftly pivoted to home delivery and has been charging full steam ahead ever since. She now offers a great monthly delivery service (tell your husbands; Valentine’s Day is coming up!) and will happily deliver arrangements for all of life’s occasions.

Dancing Dogs Yoga

Like all small, local fitness businesses, Libby Ramsey’s Dancing Dogs Yoga has suffered a great deal since March 2020. While her studio is lovely, due to capacity restrictions she can only offer limited in-studio yoga classes. Instead of shutting her doors, however, Libby has amassed a loyal online following of her virtual yoga offerings. People from as far away as California are taking DDY classes online.  The online options are definitely worth checking out as you continue your yoga practice at home.

Marble Granite World – Thomas Edgar Sikes, Jr. House

The team at Marble Granite World has spent 2020 working with Preservation Greensboro to breathe new life into the Thomas Edgar Sikes, Jr. house at 117 W Keeling. This 1958 mid-century modern “prairie style” home is located in Hamilton Lakes origin Greensboro. The owner did an excellent job restoring this home to its former glory while also bringing it into the 21st century in a dramatic fashion. Peruse the website and take a look at the project. It’s inspirational for anyone interested in carefully done home renovations and restorations.

Shane’s Sporting Clays

Shane and Trish Naylor had one of the best reactions to the pandemic of anyone we know. Working within the state guidelines, they fully utilized their outdoor sporting clays course (we recall a “like golf with a shotgun” analogy from the early days of the pandemic) and their willingness to adapt to the times enabled a lot of us to take a therapeutic break from the indoors. They also took advantage of the relative downtime and built a fabulous outdoor check-in area with Adirondack-style chairs and fire pits. It’s a wonderful place to hang out and socialize with fellow clay shooters now that the weather is cool. One of the Editors (Ashley!) had weekly date nights with her husband out there this past fall!
