Friday FIVE with Laura Kellerman, Grapevine Portrait Photography

Integral to The Scout Guide mission is telling the stories behind the small businesses Scouted in each Volume. The story begins in print and continues online, after all. As you peruse Volume 1 , we are thrilled to continue our story telling mission with a fun little feature called “Friday FIVE”. This week, learn more about what Laura Kellerman, Premier Portrait Photographer in Grapevine, loves about her local community! Side note: Laura and her husband, Austin, are the masterminds behind @thegrapevineedit, Grapevine’s beloved insider instagram account celebrating the community and the businesses that make it a great place to experience! If you’re not already, go give @Laura.kellerman and @thegrapevineedit a follow, and of course, let them know The Scout Guide sent you!

Do you have a favorite park or outdoor space in your area? “I love winding through the trails at Parr Park, especially on the western side. My poor dog has to tolerate me stopping to take pictures every time the seasons change. I also love the Grapevine Botanical Gardens first thing in the morning. It’s an incredibly peaceful stroll.”

What are your favorite restaurants / activities for a date night? “I’m going to include my family of three in this. We love the menu at Wine Fusion, and our 12-year-old daughter loves all the board game selections! If it’s a Thursday night, we’re absolutely walking down the block to Third Rail at Hotel Vin so she can bring the house down during live-band karaoke.”

You have 5 mins to go pick up a gift for someone, where are you shopping? Grapevine’s Market on Main has really unique items for all ages and all occasions. Since there are several shops under one roof, I know I only have to stop once to find something special. I also love gifting Christmas ornaments from Good Things for All Seasons!”

Are there any local traditions or events that you look forward to every year? “This is going to sound like a plug, but it’s truly my favorite night of the year! I teach photography to kids over the summer, and once all the classes are over I host a “fancy” gallery night at the studio. Friends and family come in to see amazing photographs hanging all over the walls, and there’s so much satisfaction for the young artists who are seeing their work printed for the first time. It makes my heart swell just thinking about it!”

Are there any hidden gems in your community that you’d recommend to newcomers or tourists? “When the summer heat hits hard and you’re feeling miserable, you’ve got to book a cryo facial at FACE FOUNDRIÉ! It’s such a relaxing, *cool* experience.”
