AJ Stegall: Capturing Authenticity and Beauty in OKC

AJ Stegall is a skilled photographer and a deeply empathetic and passionate person. His business, AJ Stegall Photography, has gained recognition in Oklahoma City for its focus on capturing every individual’s unique beauty and authenticity, all the while providing luxury portrait services to individuals and businesses. AJ also works as the lead photographer for The Scout Guide Oklahoma City – Volume 6. 

AJ has always been fascinated with documenting people’s stories through the lens of his camera. He founded his photography business in 2009 as a part-time venture while pursuing his Master’s in Music in Ohio. He began his photography career by providing musician headshots in his basement, which ultimately grew into a business that offers a wide range of photography, including senior photos, weddings, headshots, and empowerment portrait sessions. AJ even travels with clients to different locations across the country and abroad to capture their life moments and events. However, as his photography skills expanded, he became increasingly interested in the commercial side of photography and began working with businesses to help them tell their stories. 

AJ officially formalized his photography company in 2019 as a full-time business, with a mission to “create space for all people to be authentically themselves.” His philosophy is centered on the belief that every person is uniquely beautiful, and he is committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone to be themselves. For AJ, the key to getting an authentic photo is to connect with the person in front of the lens, and he prides himself on his ability to build genuine connections with all of his clients, no matter the nature of the session. 

AJ’s ability to connect with his clients and make them feel at ease in front of the camera truly sets him apart from other photographers. Many of his clients have remarked that they’ve never seen themselves in such a beautiful way, which is a testament to his talent as a photographer and ability to create a comfortable and positive environment for his clients. This superpower has helped AJ build a loyal client base and reputation as one of the best photographers Oklahoma City has to offer. 

AJ was recognized for his exceptional photography skills when he won the Reader’s Choice Award for Best Photographer in 2022. He also takes pride in his luxury portrait services for individuals and businesses, using his creativity to make his clients’ photoshoot dreams come true. In addition to his Reader’s Choice Award, AJ has now added Best Portrait Photographer for 2023’s Best of the 405 to his list of awards and recognitions. 

AJ has recently launched his newest Campaign titled 40 Over 40, which seeks to highlight the stories, beauty and wisdom of individuals over age 40. Each individual in this campaign gets a curated portrait session in AJ’s studio. 

What AJ loves most about The Scout Guide is the opportunity it has given him to work with different businesses in the guide and to build a sense of community in the state. The Scout Guide Oklahoma City, in turn, is proud to have AJ Stegall as a member of their community and to have the chance to showcase his incredible talents and dedication to his craft. 

In addition to receiving his Masters in Musical Performance, AJ also taught music in the public school system for ten years. When asked about his family, AJ shared that he lives in Gatewood with his amazing husband, Austin Klososky, their two dogs, Olivia and Calvin, and their cat, Corbin. 

AJ is a firm believer in giving back to the community. He is a passionate supporter of SISU Youth Services, an organization that provides housing for youth who have been displaced or without a home. SISU specializes in serving the 2SLGBTQ+ youth communities, a service that is much needed. In addition, he is a strong advocate for the growth and development of Oklahoma City, expressing excitement for the vibrancy and diversity that the city has experienced in the past ten years. 

AJ loves being a part of the OKC business scene and enjoys seeing the city grow and become more diverse. When he is not working, he loves going to Bar K, an amazing new dog park in downtown OKC, or taking a stroll through downtown to admire the architecture and parks. When asked what three things he would recommend visitors to OKC to plan on when touring the city, he suggested visiting the Oklahoma Contemporary Art Museum, shopping at Plenty Mercantile, and eating at Cheevers.
