GINA BRUNO-DUNN: PILATES ON WESTERN

Inclusive Fitness Found at Pilates on Western

It’s no secret that lifting heavyweights and bench pressing isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But what if I told you there’s a better, more exciting way of toning your body and building strength in the heart of Oklahoma City?

Dedicated to helping you transform your body and mind, Gina Bruno-Dunn recommends the art of pilates. That’s why she started Pilates on Western (POW) in 2017. In fact, one step in her cheerful and bright studio is enough to get your blood pumping. But there’s more that she wants to offer in her fitness haven.

Born in Oklahoma to a family of driven entrepreneurs Gina learned the secrets to running a business from father Frank Bruno and mother Xochitl Bruno who owned Bruno Home Furniture for 55 years. Now Bruno’s Properties, the business includes Pilates on Western, Studio on Western, The Purple Pig, Bruno and Dunn Furniture, and leased properties The Vine and K&N Consignment.

After completing her pilates certification, Gina wanted to do something different when it comes to exercise and moving your body. That’s why, after reconnecting with her friend and now business partner Linda Tillotson, she decided to open Pilates on Western. After months of planning and hard work, they opened the doors in March 2017 to her fitness studio specializing in equipment pilates, barre, yoga, and more in a fun and lively environment.

Today, Gina and Linda inspire people like you and me to strengthen and stretch our bodies. As she takes inspiration from Joseph Pilates, it’s not hard to see why everyone loves training at Pilates on Western.

Gina has always believed in creating an inclusive fitness studio where everyone feels welcome to join in low-impact workouts, and she lives up to that core value by promoting a fun-loving, accepting, and enjoyable atmosphere.

Pilates is for every BODY. Our goal is to continually make people happy to be here, feel comfortable in body and mind, and, hopefully, happier when they leave class,” says Gina. “Our goal in opening POW was to be completely inclusive. In our experience, we never wanted anyone to feel unwelcome, unworthy or required to dress, act or fit in a certain shape, size or look.”

That’s why her bright and sunny studio boasts a variety of courses and training sessions all with a unique vibe. She offers training courses and the latest equipment for all skill levels and body sizes. So she not only helps people enhance their core strength and flexibility, but she also aids in boosting confidence and a sense of belonging.

In addition to the pilates, yoga, and barre programs, POW offers private sessions. As Gina says, “Our instructors all teach uniquely with their own certification type, style and personality. allowing our clients to connect with a trainer who understands their needs or motivation.”

Gina took advantage of the pandemic lockdown era by expanding her practice to the adjoining space to create Studio On Western. Here the studio’s floating floor makes low-impact dancing and movement extremely comfortable and literally puts an extra “bounce” in each step.

And as the studio expands, Gina believes her future in the city is bright. Her commitment to promoting inclusivity is truly special and goes beyond the studio’s four walls. As a board member of It’s My Community, Gina works with and supports multiple non-profit organizations improving constituents’ lives and Oklahoma City as a whole.

Fortunately, Gina’s stand-out studio hasn’t gone unnoticed, as she’s been nominated for Best of awards from The Gazette, 405 Magazine, and other outlets multiple times. Her happy and cheerful mindset is always reflected within her studios, buzzing with positive energy.

If you are seeking a fun way to stay in shape or have always wanted to try out pilates, stop by Pilates on Western where you’re sure to find a class, an instructor, and a lively atmosphere to keep you motivated. And of course…be sure to tell them The Scout Guide sent you!
