Newport Beach Sandwich Guide

Newport Beach Sandwich Guide

If ample personal experience is insufficient proof, then the sheer longevity of Newport Beach sandwich shops is an irrefutable testament to one of life’s simple truths: sandwiches taste better on the beach.

And whether stocking your beach bag with gourmet provisions to make a beachside sandwich or stopping in for your go-to sub order, Orange County’s family-owned delis and sandwich shops deliver. Here, we highlight longtime local favorites that offer everything from grab-and-go and made-to-order sandwich options to house-made sweets and ice-cold provisions for your cooler.

SCOUTED SANDWICH SHOPS

A MARKET

SCOUTED | 3400 W Coast Highway, Newport Beach | @amarket | A Market serves up hot and cold seasonally-inspired sandwiches made for long beach days. In addition to sandwiches you’ll find a great selection of beverages for your cooler and snackable goods. Online ordering available.

C’EST SI BON

149 Riverside Ave, Suite A, Newport Beach | @cestsibonnb | A longtime – 44 years to be exact – Newport Beach favorite bakery serving up – in addition to decadent sweets – build-your-own sandwiches on fresh-baked bread. Online ordering available Monday – Friday, 9:00 to 3:00.

DORY DELI

2108 W Oceanfront, Newport Beach | @dorydeli | Inspired by the historic Dory Fleet Market, Dory’s is a beachfront bar and deli serving beachgoers starting early. Grab a coffee starting at 6:00 and order from their full menu after 11:30 AM. We’re partial to the sandwiches, which come hot or cold and pair well with craft cocktails. Online ordering available.

GARY’S DELI

3309 East Coast Hwy, Corona Del Mar | @garysnewyorkdeli | Gary’s Deli is a New York-style deli and that, with nearly four decades of service, has become a O.C. staple. In classic California fashion, you’ll find tacos, but the sandwiches are the main draw, especially if you’re on the way to Big Corona.

IRVINE RANCH MARKET

2651 Irvine Ave, Costa Mesa & | @irvineranchmarket | A traditional gourmet market with a delightful selection of groceries and fan-favorite, size-XL  sandwiches. Stop in to grab made-to-order sandwiches and stock up on snacks. Online ordering available.

LIL’ PICKLE

2985 Fairview Rd, Costa Mesa | Serving up subs and sandwiches since 1962, Lil’ Pickle is one of Orange County’s oldest sandwich shops. And their lineup is time-tested. We recommend anything with the avocado spread.

LOMBARDY’S MARKET & DELI

508 W Balboa Blvd, Newport Beach | @lombardysmarket | Located on the peninsula, Lombardy’s is a convenient grab-and-go stop for delicious (dare we say decadent) made-to-order sandwiches featuring fresh bread and specialty meats and cheeses. You can also pick up (or pop back in for) beach essentials like cold beer, water, and ice.

RUBY’S SANDWICH SALOON

1673 Irvine Ave | @rubyssandwichsaloon | The family-owned, somewhat-hidden gem is a local favorite for beach sandwiches. Piled high with fresh ingredients on house-made bread, it’s a classic, homey stop for beach lunches.

SESSIONS WEST COAST DELI

2823 Newport Blvd & 101 Newport Center Drive | @sessionswestcoastdeli | Sessions redefines the idea of a neighborhood deli, offering it a decidedly Newport Beach spin (the first location was on Newport Beach’s iconic peninsula, afterall). It’s a from-scratch establishment that whips up award-winning sandwiches featuring fresh, locally-grown produce, naturally-raised meats, and locally-baked artisan breads (including gluten free options).

THE BUTCHERY

Crystal Cove, Del Mar, Brea, Costa Mesa | @the_butchery | A true specialty shop, The Butchery lends their laser focus to patrons, delivering the highest quality ingredients for gourmet dinners and beach sandwiches alike.
