Dr. Unger & Nashville PSI

By: Evins Roddy

Today I had the chance to interview Dr. Jacob Unger of Nashville Plastic Surgery Institute about his practice, botox, Nashville, and more! Check it out below.

1. How long have you called Nashville home?

“I have been lucky to call Nashville home for 8 years.   My wife’s family is from here so I have been visiting for almost 20 years and have watched the growth and transformation of our city with wonder and excitement!”

2. What made you decide to go into the field of plastic surgery?

“Ever since I was 3 years old I wanted to be a surgeon. To take care of people and improve health by directly using my hands and effecting immediate change! I chose NYU School of Medicine (top school with top level plastic surgery department, especially at that time) specifically because of my interest in plastic surgery that began in earnest in high school while exploring various fields. In medical school I found a research group with the department and began to really spend time in the operating room with plastic surgeons. When I saw the breadth and depth of our field, coupled with its cutting edge innovation focus, I knew that was the right field for me.  I love that every day is different and I can use my technical skills to solve complex surgical problems and issues individualized to each person to deliver wonderful aesthetic outcomes for my patients.”

3. Tell us about your specialities….

“I specialize in aesthetic surgery of the face and breast.  Like my predecessor and mentor Dr. Maxwell, one of my specialties is complex breast revision surgeries.  I really enjoy helping women who are not happy or who have had difficulties with the outcome from a previous breast augmentation and/or lift. These are some of the most challenging cases in plastic surgery and I love having the tools and skill set to improve these myriad issues and help give women confidence again.  I also am fortunate to do a lot of face and neck lifts, my other main passion in our field. This is also a very complex area that requires complex technical skills and, I believe, a true sense of artistry to see how poropitions should be recreated and balance should be obtained. It’s a  true joy to get to do it, and I am lucky to take care of so many wonderful people here in Nashville as well as many patients whom travel in from all over the country and world for surgery with us.”

4. Describe your practice in 3 words…

“Elegant, Refined, World-class”

5. When did you take over from Dr. Maxwell?

“I took over from Dr. Maxwell in 2018.  I am lucky that he still has an office in the building so I still get to see him on a regular basis and we get to discuss complex surgical issues and just chat about life sometimes!”

6. What is your favorite non-surgical procedure for the best results?

“This is a great and nuanced question.  We are big fans of the Morpheus8 procedure at our office.  We see patients of all ages really happy with their results.  Our patients like to use it for their faces and necks as well as stomachs are a popular area where we see an improvement in skin laxity.”

7. What would you recommend to someone interested in beginning botox?

“I would say start small and don’t over do it (you can always add more) but we love botox  to help correct dynamic lines (lines that occur from facial movement) and as preventative procedures before those deep lines set in.”
