Meet the Editor of The Scout Guide Lubbock - Audra Opperman

Hey, Audra! Tell us about yourself!

I’d be glad to! Although I was born in the Land of Enchantment, Texas has always felt like home to me. After earning my B.A. in communication from Eastern New Mexico University, I spent five years working in the Red Raider Club for the Texas Tech athletic department.

I have many fond memories from my time in Texas Tech Athletics, including attending the College World Series, the NCAA Final Four, and most importantly meeting my husband, Justin, who still works in the athletic department. Together we have four children — Jaxon, Malley, and twin boys, Owen and Harry John. Although I didn’t graduate from Texas Tech, I am a Red Raider at heart.

After working for Texas Tech, I joined Purpose Marketing – a female-founded small business here in Lubbock. Purpose focuses on digital marketing with a special emphasis on highlighting and growing local businesses in Lubbock and the surrounding communities.

Through my experience working with these local businesses and the Texas Tech community, I have discovered the most talented artists, artisans, and entrepreneurs in our city. I am excited to highlight these wonderful people and their businesses as the editor and owner of The Scout Guide Lubbock.

How did you first become familiar with The Scout Guide?

I heard about The Scout Guide about a year ago from one of my colleagues at Purpose Marketing. She’s actually the person who approached me about bringing it to Lubbock.  I thought it was a cool concept and idea, but didn’t think much of it until she brought a copy of TSG to me in person. Immediately I knew this was different than anything I’d seen before. It’s beautiful and feels so high-end. I set up an inquiry call with TSG HQ and the rest is history!

What excites you most about being the editor of The Scout Guide Lubbock?

I love the idea of getting to celebrate small businesses and supporting local entrepreneurs. These are the places I personally love to shop, eat, and visit. The opportunity to promote what they do best to someone who might not have ever heard of their business excited me! I love this city and all it has to offer, I want visitors and locals to appreciate what makes this area of Texas so special. I also get to be a small business owner! So the opportunity to bring income to my family and really take ownership of something is liberating for me.

How can small business owners in Lubbock learn more about The Scout Guide?
