Tips to maintain and manage your hair in the warmer summer months

*Invest in hydrating and deep conditioning products

Hydrating shampoo will help bring life back to your hair. Warm and humid days may tempt you to shampoo your hair more often, DON’T! Less frequent shampooing is key to battling frizzy hair. Rather than using shampoo every time, try rinsing with warm water to take away some of the sweat and oils, then condition your ends as you normally would. By not striping away all of your natural oils, you are instantly creating healthier hair.

Doing this will keep your tresses moisturized while enhancing shine and texture. Brunettes will be more lush, and blondes more vibrant.

*When all else fails, Have a back up plan

Our low country weather is unpredictable, it can be hot, sunny and humid one minute and then down pouring the next. Here are some tried and true tips to stay looking pretty and polished.

Always keep at least one or more of the following items on your person, in your bag / purse, or in your vehicle at all times.

A couple of products we recommend for on the go are travel size, humidity resistant hairsprays.

MOROCCAN OIL Luminous Hairspray Strong is soft, shiny and has great humidity protection.

IGK 1-800-Hold-Me No-Crunch Flexible Hold Hairspray is a brightening, flexible hairspray that gives all day hold, while staying touchable, soft and reworkable. This flexible hairspray uses high-shine micro-light reflectors to give a subtle, healthy glow to all hair types and colors.

Scrunchies, hair ties, bobby pins, or cute clips. (Jamie’s top picks are from Anthropologie, J Crew and H&M).

Next the Pony-O! (Colleen is in love with high pony’s and big buns. Head to PONY-O where you can find Pony-O’s and their accessories, with quick tutorials).

Nothing polishes your outfit like a stylish, light-weight hat or scarf. (Jamie and Colleen suggest straw hats, medium or wide brim Fedoras, wide brim floppy hats or a light-weight scarf that is cool to the skin and made of natural fiber like cotton, rayon or linen). These can be found around Charleston at stores such as Goorin Bros. on King St. and Key West Hat Co on N. Market St.

AND REMEMBER… COOL HEADS WILL PREVAIL!
