Home Consignment Made Simple with Reclaimed Interiors

Last month we shared that TSG Boise Members gathered at Reclaimed Interiors, a full-service home consignment store owned by member Vicki Pene. While many are new to consigning home goods, most can relate to the dilemma of storage spaces full of beautiful pieces that only continue to collect dust. Whether it came from downsizing or redecorating, it’s still difficult to part with perfectly functional and valuable items. That’s where Reclaimed Interiors comes in. Patrons can drop by the store anytime with larger pieces of furniture or smaller items like lighting, art, and rugs, and a staff member will immediately help determine which items are sellable alongside consignment conditions. Below, Pene shares a few tips on simplifying the process and maximizing results for those new to this resale alternative.

1. Do your research

When consigning, you are essentially lending your items to a retail store owner. The retailer displays those products and if/when the merchandise sells, the owner pays you an agreed-upon percentage. It is very important that a contract is in writing prior to the sale with clearly outlined terms (time frame for display, percentage of sale, payment schedule, lost or stolen items, upkeep of merchandise, etc…). Any home consignment store should be upfront with these conditions upon initial inspection of your items, but don’t be afraid to ask questions!

2. Be sure the location is the right fit for your needs

It’s important to find a store that has a steady flow of foot traffic and a regular rotation of goods coming in and out of the store. You’ll also want to look for a relatable aesthetic for the items you’re considering consigning. If you have more modern furnishings it would be less beneficial to consign at an antique heavy store. At Reclaimed Interiors, we pay close attention to offering a variety of design styles (vintage + antique as well as current + modern) on the floor for that very reason.

3. Be realistic about the items you plan to consign.

Furniture and home decor consignment is such a wise option when it comes to upcycling and resale, however that doesn’t mean it’s meant for every piece of furniture or decor in your storage unit. When making selections think vintage furniture that may have been inherited but doesn’t fit your home, or more current items that still have a lot of life left in them (we also love unique one-of-a-kind pieces)!

So many of our clients don’t initially realize what a vast array of items we accept, it’s typically worth checking with us first before they donate. They can simply drop the items off, and we’ll take it from there, managing pricing, upkeep, and marketing throughout the sale process.
