ABOUT TSG WILMINGTON EDITOR JEN STOLP:

A former politico who spent nearly 15 years working in national politics, Jen followed the lead of her brother and parents by settling into a life by the beach in Wilmington, North Carolina, a locale that has all the perks of a large city, but with a small-town, coastal feel.

Through her work editing The Scout Guide Wilmington, Jen is able to connect with the incredible small business community along the Cape Fear Coast. Many of these business owners in the area have followed their dream of building a business while living steps from the beach, and each of their stories is unique and inspiring.

Jen has a 20-year archive of interior design and fashion magazines that she constantly turns to for inspiration, and in her spare time, she enjoys spoiling her miniature dachshund, Pepper; playing tennis; taking indoor cycling classes; and spending time with her family—including five nieces and nephews under the age of six!

JEN’S THREE FAVORITE REASONS TO VISIT WILMINGTON & THE CAPE FEAR COAST:

  1. The beach. “If you love water sports, you’re in luck. We’re fortunate to have some of the country’s best beaches as our backyard! Every April, Wrightsville Beach is home to the world’s largest stand up paddle boarding (SUP) festival and race. If you’re not a world-class paddler, not to worry, there are plenty of low-key beach activities to enjoy with family and friends on the water or on our white sandy beaches. Bald Head Island is also a hidden gem and coastal hideaway. One of the best parts about life on BHI is you’ll never get caught in ‘beach traffic,’ since cars aren’t allowed on the island!”
  2. The growing community downtown. “Downtown Wilmington already boasts a historic, award-winning river walk along the Cape Fear River. It is also undergoing an amazing transformation with new restaurants from world-renowned chefs, craft cocktails lounges, breweries, coffee shops, and boutiques—all steps from the water!”
  3. Wilmywood. “Wilmington and the surrounding beaches have served as the backdrop for many films and TV shows over the years, and locals affectionately refer to it as ‘Wilmywood.’ Dawson’s Creek, One Tree Hill, Good Behavior, Iron Man 3, The Conjuring, Safe Haven, and Weekend at Bernie’s are just a few on a long list of productions that have been filmed here.”
