To celebrate the release of The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale Volume 3, we gathered with scouted businesses and our nearest + dearest for an evening of local-infused revelry. It was both a delightful opportunity to gather Phoenix & Scottsdale’s most innovative and a wonderful illustration of the prodigious talent of the Valley’s events experts.

In creating a new installment of The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale, our team establishes a cohesive vision that influences both the art direction of the print guide and the experiential aspects of Scout Guide membership. Drawing inspiration from the Valley’s architecture and history, Editor + Owner Sasha Clements and her team opted for a mid-century modern-infused approach for Volume 3.

The selection of the iconic Phoenix Art Museum for our signature annual event was a natural extension of this theme. As both an institution and a building, the Phoenix Art Museum has been the result of distinct interventions for over half a century. Initially designed in the 1950s by Frank Lloyd Wright apprentices Alden B. Dow and Blaine Drake, it seamlessly aligned with our creative vision, making it the perfect venue for the occasion.

To help us set the tone for the event, we tapped Volume 3 Member Pretty Paper Club to design bespoke invitations. The ultra-talented owner of the local paperie, Natalie Meszeros, created the most fabulous invites that could withstand the test time: matted Slim Aarons photos with a color-coordinated insert on the back of the artwork to house the invitation suite. Of course, both the image Natalie selected and the stationary complemented Volume 3 cover colors.

Together with Phoenix & Scottsdale’s premier event planner, George Abrams Events, we set to work designing a launch party worthy of mid-century icon Slim Aarons. In true George Abrams fashion, the owner of the eponymous full-service event design company handled every detail. Armed with the instructions to make our exceptional venue, the Phoenix Art Museum, feel like Slim Aaron’s living room, George recruited his tried and tested local vendors and Volume 3 partners.

As the gracious host, Phoenix Art Museum welcomed their fellow Volume 3 members to one of their many incredible event spaces. Though generously sized, George Abrams coordinated with Cre8tive Event Rentals and fellow Volume 3 Member, Modern Manor, to design a space that felt intimate and, of course, thoroughly Slim Aarons-approved.

Modern Manor, the Valley’s authority on mid-century modern design, created the most incredible vintage vignettes, at which our well-heeled members mixed and mingled. To complement the muted hues of classic mid-century pieces, Angelic Grove (Volume 1 Member, formerly The Croft) designed the dramatic step and repeat floral installation and lovely floral centerpieces.

Guests got their first look at Volume 3 at the entrance to Phoenix Art Museum. Greeted by a vintage pink Cadillac, guests could grab their first copy from the trunk piled high with this year’s guide. Once inside, members were treated to a signature cocktail designed by Volume 3 members Liquid Caterers, a full-service mobile beverage company specializing in bespoke elements like edible branded garnishes and smoked enhancements.

Drink in hand, guests wandered to the Cummings Great Hall, taking in a handful of Phoenix Art Museum’s permanent exhibitions and bespoke living art installations courtesy of Showstoppers.

Within the Cummings Hall, guests were treated to delicious light bites and, later, sweets from the Valley’s premier catering group, Benedict’s Caterers. The must-hire Mr. P-body treated us to tunes as guests enjoyed an in-depth look at Volume 3 and hand-calligraphed guides courtesy of Desert Plume Calligraphy.

After an evening spent forging new connections and toasting local talent, guests left with gift bags that gave a glimpse at the incredible breadth and offerings of their fellow Volume 3 members. Thank you to Koko’s Candles for creating a Volume 3 candle, Cammie Cutter Designs for hand-painting gorgeous mini Veuve Cliquot bottles, and the generous members who donated local delights.
