Integral to The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale’s mission is telling the stories behind the small businesses Scouted in each Volume. The story begins in print and continues online, after all. As you peruse Volume 3, discovering or rediscovering the faces behind the places that define the Valley, we are thrilled to deepen your connection to them — and the community — through Member Spotlights.

As firm believers in the power and permanence of print — and its unique ability to forge and sustain connections — we are particularly eager to share the story of Pretty Paper Club, a heartfelt paper company delivering joy through handwritten notes, invitations, and personalized stationery.

Created by Natalie Meszaros in 2017, Pretty Paper Club with a vision to honor a dear friend and preserve the magic of pen and paper in our increasingly digital era. Today, Natalie’s Phoenix-born paper company is connecting friends and family around the world.

To learn more about her mission to brighten mailboxes, we chatted with the letter writer and local entrepreneur. Here, we discuss the permanence of print and the power of a handwritten note.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Where does your love of handwritten notes originate?
Natalie Meszaros: I grew up in a large military family. We moved every two or three years, which inspired my love of sending handwritten letters. The practice helped me stay connected with friends and family all over the world.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: How did you end up in the Valley? And what kept you here?
Natalie Meszaros: I moved to Arizona to study biochemistry in college. That was the first time I spent more than three years in one city. Shortly afterward, I met my husband, who was born and raised in North Central Phoenix. We actually live just three blocks away from where he grew up!

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: What inspired you to start Pretty Paper Club?
Natalie Meszaros: While I loved writing letters and gifting stationery, the loss of my best friend, Julie, to cancer really inspired Pretty Paper Club. She had a lifelong habit of sending confetti-filled letters, which had such a joyful impact on their recipients. I wanted to create something that honored her legacy of spreading happiness.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: What did that entrepreneurial leap look like?
Natalie Meszaros: What started as a hobby of gifting personalized stationery to friends and family turned into a stream of ongoing requests for custom stationery from strangers. One day, in a moment of sheer courage and creativity, I threw up a website. That month, Pretty Paper Club welcomed its first 30 members.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Let’s talk about your subscription-based model…
Natalie Meszaros: Every month, The Pretty Paper Club delivers carefully curated boxes filled with delightful surprises, including personalized stationery and a bag of confetti that honors Julie’s memory. Our hope is that we provide everything you need to send a quick note and, by extension, joy to those you love. Emails are good, but letters are better.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: What a perfect way to honor your lifelong friend and penpal. What, in addition to confetti, can subscribers expect each month?
Natalie Meszaros: Recipients can expect small-batch stationary and paper accessories, like stickers, tags, washi tape, pens, and more. Ultimately, however, we’re more than pretty paper, we’re a community of people who celebrate and cheerlead others with intentional words and thoughtful notes.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Like Pretty Paper Club’s tagline, you’re brightening mailboxes.
Natalie Meszaros: That’s our hope! And we love hearing from our monthly stationary club members about how they rip into their boxes, eager to see the new design and send a note or two. Our members know in their hearts that they are sending sunshine to those they love.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Yet, your delightful monthly boxes are not all you’re sending these days… You’ve expanded into the most beautiful invitation design. Can you speak to that service?
Natalie Meszaros: Absolutely! We offer personalized invitation design, consultation and paper goods to elevate any event. Mailed invitations offer a tangible and personal touch that digital invitations simply cannot replicate. We find that they create a long-lasting impression and sense of anticipation for the event.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Most recently, you created incredible bespoke invitations for The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale Volume 3 launch party. You captured our vision perfectly, and building the invitation into the back of a ready-for-framing Slim Aarons photo was genius. It set the tone for our mid-century modern-inspired celebration perfectly, and we know that many of our invitees have the invitation framed and displayed in their homes…
Natalie Meszaros: We love working one-on-one with clients to create a lasting impression or, in The Scout Guide’s case, a tangible keepsake.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Your approach has garnered you some big name clients. Can you share more details on recent work?
Natalie Meszaros: I’ve had the honor to work on the last two Super Bowls hosted in Arizona (2015 and 2023), collaborating with the Cardinals Football Club to design invitations for NFL Owners Dinner and After Party.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: What was that like?
Natalie Meszaros: The goal of the invitation is to welcome the 32 NFL owners to Phoenix and kick off Super Bowl weekend. The event was held at The Arizona Science Center, Heritage Square and ended at The Phoenix Convention Center with special performer, Gwen Stefani. It was a pleasure to work with dozens of local businesses and watch Phoenix shine during the biggest sporting event in the country.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Let’s talk more about Phoenix and Scottsdale. After living in dozens of cities around the world, what do you love most about living and working in the Valley?
Natalie Meszaros: I love the weather and the small town feel with big city perks.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Where can we usually find you around town?
Natalie Meszaros: Fame Caffe,  OAK on Camelback, Flower Child, and The Neighborly Public House are favorites for great eats. Rosie’s, the speakeasy behind Richardson’s, is my favorite for happy hour. I love shopping at Cordially, Muse, and Uptown Farmers Market. And you’ll often find me at a sporting event, whether that’s the Cardinals, Phoenix Suns, or Phoenix Mercury games.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Are there any local causes near and dear to your heart?
Natalie Meszaros: Of course! I’m on the Board of Visitors and participate in the National Charity League with my daughter, Kate.
