Meet Frances King

Frances King and Knoxville Tennessee were made for each other. Both personify southern charm, a deep sense of family and a commitment to the community. Originally from Texas, Frances has been preparing for her Scout Guide role for the past 20 years. After graduating from Southern Methodist University in 2003, she packed her bags and headed to Italy for a brief but useful stint in culinary school. A master at entertaining, her skills at the stove however were quickly overshadowed by her uncanny eye for detail and her longtime passion for design. Frances knows the look that works from furniture to fabrics to floor coverings and has accumulated a collection of fine antiques, furniture, art and accessories. Frances knows the value of hard work, whether raising funds for local charities or raising a family. She was raised on the motto “you get what you give” and firmly believes in being rooted in her local community. Frances is thrilled to be the editor of The Scout Guide Knoxville and can’t wait to share her passion to live, love and shop local.

Frances’ Favorite Reasons to Visit

Reason 1

Four Seasons – Knoxville has the best of everything! Fall color in the smoky mountains and UT football, colder winter temps with snow,  gorgeous spring blooms and the Dogwood Trail, and warm summers perfect for floating in the river or water skiing in one of the many lakes.

Reason 2

Food & Drink – Serving as the gateway to Blackberry Farm and Blackberry Mountain, it’s no wonder that our city draws amazing talent. Former chefs and up and coming new ones are turning Knoxville into a vibrant food scene. And when you aren’t eating, you could be drinking! There are breweries, distilleries and coffee houses galore.

Reason 3

History & Community – Knoxville, the 16th state, and birthplace of Tennessee, was the state capital for over 20 years. Historic Gay Street houses not one, but two renovated theaters with live shows regularly. And The University of Tennessee, one of the oldest in the country, hosts an array of sporting events, concerts and lectures from all over the country. Knoxville is a mecca for southern hospitality and culture.
