ABOUT TSG JACKSON EDITOR CARLEY HAWKINS:
Growing up as the daughter of a small business owner, Carley learned the importance of supporting local early in life. From 2015 to 2020, she owned and operated her own small business in her local equestrian community, and prior to that, she worked for her father’s small business in commercial furniture sales. After selling her personal business in the spring of 2020, the opportunity to become the owner and editor for The Scout Guide Jackson fell into her lap, and with enthusiasm and anticipation she started her journey in 2021 with The Scout Guide.
Carley is looking forward to being more involved in her community and helping support local businesses during this unprecedented time when they need it the most. In her spare time, as self-professed foodies, she and her husband and son are usually eating out at any number of the wonderful area restaurants or enjoying cooking at home. With a lifelong personal love of horses, if she has a moment to spare, you can bet the barn is where you’ll find her.
CARLEY’S THREE FAVORITE REASONS TO VISIT THE JACKSON AREA:
- The food. “The South in general is known for phenomenal food, and Jackson is certainly no exception. For a relatively small city, Jackson has a plethora of wonderful, local restaurants offering just about anything one could desire—from crawfish huts to steak houses.”
- The blues. “Just north of Jackson is the Mississippi Delta, which is known as the Birthplace of the Blues. Following the Blues Trail offers a chance to not only experience the incomparable music itself but also to see the unique beauty and history of the Mississippi Delta.”
- The South. “Jackson and its outskirts present the perfect opportunity to experience the genuine deep south while still having access to a metropolitan area—humidity, history and all!”
