Unboxing Deaf Identity—The Personal Journey of Jess Hissam

Dr. Jessica Hissam is a pelvic health therapist at Johnson and Hayes Physical Therapists, and a content creator outside of her career. Jess creates content on her Instagram (@jess.hsquared) about her personal experiences and perspective as a Deaf woman with bilateral cochlear implants, advocating for accessibility, and other lifestyle content. Jess also works with families with Deaf/HH children closely through WISE for Alabama. In her free time, Jess can be found enjoying the food/drink scene around Huntsville with friends or wake-surfing on Smith Lake with her husband, Chris, and her chocolate lab, Whiskey.

Jess, we cannot thank you enough for sharing your personal perspective on being deaf, bilateral cochlear implants, deaf advocacy, and what hearing can do to be more aware of everything. We are so glad you were able to share your voice with Huntsville! Be sure to give @jess.hsquared a follow on Instagram to learn even more about her life perspective and journey!
