RELIVE THE 31st YEAR OF DESIGN INSPIRATIONS

Design Inspirations, an annual fundraising event hosted by Fort Worth’s Alumnae Associations of Kappa Kappa Gamma and Pi Beta Phi, brings together local designers, individuals, business owners and philanthropic organizations who design and create the most magnificent tablescapes to support two deserving organizations – Gill Children’s and Breakthrough Fort Worth. Coincidentally, Design Inspirations unofficially sets in motion the beginning of the Spring season, sparking creativity in Fort Worth and beyond.

On March 6th and 7th over 500 people gathered at Ridglea Country Club to create, showcase and be inspired by the beautifully designed tables. The event was kick-started by a preview party on Wednesday and followed by a luncheon and keynote on Thursday from award-winning architect Gil Schafer III, a leading expert in contemporary classical architecture and a member of the AD 100. Schafer shared the stories of homes he designed (included in his recent book: “Home at Last: Enduring Design for the New American House”) in the mist-covered Hudson Valley, on a bluff above Lake Champlain, on the windswept shores of Block Island, and on the coast of Maine. He shared the details about choices made for architecture and interiors, and emphasized his guiding principles: how to create classical buildings that “live modern”; how to adapt buildings to different regions and ways of life; the connection to landscape; and why fancy can coexist with simple, and traditional with modern.

The annual Design Inspirations event is not only inspiring but impactful. Over it’s 31 years, the annual two-day event has distributed millions of dollars to community organizations in Fort Worth. This year’s beneficiaries included two wonderful local organizations, Gill Children’s Services Inc. and Breakthrough Fort Worth.

Gill Children’s Services has been the safety net for Tarrant County children, providing funding for unmet medical, dental, physical, social, psychological, and educational needs. For many, Gill Children’s Services is a last resort and only hope. And since its founding, Gill has never turned away a child in need.

Similarly, Breakthrough Fort Worth serves Fort Worth and Tarrant County children. A leader in education equity, Breakthrough Fort Worth provides access and opportunity to students from under-resourced communities traditionally underrepresented in higher education. Breakthrough Fort Worth bridges the gap for high-achieving students across Fort Worth through a student-teaching-student model to help bright young minds reach – and prepare success at – higher education.
