Your name and business name: Lindsey Sozio, founder of Lavender Coffee Boutique
Number of years here in Denver: 4

Please share your Denver story. Can you tell me a bit more about yourself and how your journey led you to where you are today?

I’ve spent most of my life on the east coast, from CT to NY to FL. After being in FL for about 5 years my husband and I decided we missed the seasons and had an opportunity to move to Denver. I love feeling like we have it all weather-wise—lots of sunshine plus seasons. We’ve found a fantastic community both personally and professionally and enjoy all that the Colorado lifestyle offers.

Can you please tell me a little about your business?

Lavender Coffee Boutique is a new coffee and retail concept developed to luxuriate the coffee shop experience through interior design and a curated retail collection of hemp-derived and natural products across multiple categories, including coffee & tea, skincare, bath & body, wellness, and fitness. Our goal is to provide our customers with a calming physical environment and the opportunity to bring a piece of that experience home with our retail products.

Why did you start your own business?

I’ve always believed that there is a connection between coffee and wellness.  Lavender is the culmination of several years of developing the concept for combining the two.

What do you love most about owning your own business?

I love it when a customer expresses how much they’ve enjoyed their experience with our company. It could be that their coffee was delicious, the coffee shop calm and relaxing (as intended) or their delivery from an online order made their day. We’ve put a lot of thought into every detail, and I’d like to think it shows.

What inspires you?

Sunrise. I like to be up early in the morning to set intentions for the day. Watching the beautiful colors of a Colorado sunrise reminds me that a new day brings possibilities, something that is humbling.

What makes you feel accomplished?

Setting a goal, and then reaching that goal.

If you could go back in time and give your 18 year old self advice, what would it be?

Don’t be afraid to try new things and take risks because there is always something to learn whether you find success, or it doesn’t work out.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

I enjoy hiking and skiing in the mountains, spending time with my family and friends, and traveling both near and far.

What trends are you seeing that relate to your business that our readers should be aware of?

I’m seeing a movement toward conscientiously slowing down and being more intentional and thoughtful about the day.

What’s next for you and your business?

The plan is to continue to provide calm for our customers in their daily routine both online and in our café. We would love to have an opportunity to expand and open additional locations. Hopefully 2024 will be a good year for doing just that.
