Can you tell me a bit more about yourself and how your journey led you to where you are today?

Dr. Isaac Chung: I am a Board-Certified Orthodontist at i-Orthodontics and have been part of the team since 2018. We have four practices in the Denver metro. I was born and raised in Fort Smith, Arkansas. I completed my undergraduate studies at Stanford University and obtained my doctorate and specialty training from the University of Pennsylvania. There were many factors that led me to where I am today, but the biggest one is the influence I had from my family. My family were refugees from Vietnam. As the youngest of eleven children, I had a lot of guidance from my older siblings. It was my parents, though, who taught us the value of hard work and determination.

Can you please tell me a little about your business?

Our motto is simple: Life Life Smiling. i-Orthodontics was established with a greater mission than straightening teeth. We were built to change lives. Our goal is to give patients confidence through beautiful smiles. As a Board-Certified Orthodontist, I specialize in providing custom, high-quality orthodontic treatment for pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients with the use of braces and Invisalign. When you join our i-Ortho Family, we become partners. As partners on your smile journey, we ensure you that you’ll have fun every step of the way to your new smile! It is your smile and laughter that drive us.

Why did you start your own business?

i-Orthodontics was founded in 2008 by Dr. Anil Idiculla with a mission to build self-esteem, create impact, and to serve the community through philanthropy. Those were the pillars that drew me to i-Ortho. I had the privilege of joining i-Orthodontics in 2018 and have since taken on the role as lead orthodontist. It’s an honor to carry on the mission of i-Orthodontics and build on the foundation that Dr. Idiculla established.

What do you love most about owning your own business?

What I love the most about being a business owner is the ability to empower those on my team. Many of our team members had no prior dental experience prior to joining i-Orthodontics. What initially drew many on our team was not just the experience that patients had, but the experience that our team members shared. My goal is to build up confidence in my teammates and set them up to succeed. I know we’ve succeeded when I see one team member coaching a newer member on various aspects of our practice. That is what I find to be the most fulfilling to me as a business owner.

What inspires you?

Remembering all of the people who helped me get to where I am today is what inspires me. It all started with my parents who were refugees from Vietnam. They sacrificed everything they had to come to a country full of opportunity so that their children could have the best. Then, there were the teachers, counselors, pastors, and community leaders who all dedicated so much of themselves to help me achieve the goals I set for myself. Lastly, my wife and two daughters who bring me so much joy and encouragement every time I come home from a day of work.

What makes you feel accomplished?

My favorite moment on each of my patients’ smile journey is when they take a look at themselves in the mirror after they complete treatment. The most rewarding part of what I do is witnessing the confidence and boost in self-esteem in their eyes and body language. It’s such a great feeling.

If you could go back in time and give your 18 year old self advice, what would it be?

It’s going to be a pretty wild time in 2020. Remember gratitude and always count your blessings.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

I love spending time with my family. We’re often searching for the newest restaurant or finding a coffee shop to relax in. When the weather’s warm, you’ll find me out running or biking around the neighborhood.

What trends are you seeing that relate to your business that our readers should be aware of?

DIY is trendy these days. There are many companies out there who promote orthodontic treatment with little to no guidance and management of a doctor. These companies simplify the process of ordering aligners and will mail the aligners directly to your home. However, aligning teeth is a medical procedure and I strongly encourage you to seek treatment with a professional! While these companies may offer very attractive price points, you would be surprised that many orthodontists can provide higher quality treatment at a comparable rate while also offering very flexible financing.

What do you like best about being apart of The Scout Guide?

I love the photoshoot and the creativity that goes into the Guide. It’s so much fun seeing all of the local businesses highlighted. I truly admire Leigh and the heart she puts into creating such a thoughtful publication.

What’s next for you and your business?

Right now, I am focusing on creating an impact on my team members, my patients, and my community. The next thing is figuring out how to create an impact on the world.

What are 3 fun facts about you?

1. I’m the youngest of eleven children.

2. You can find me on Peloton @ichung. Let’s ride together!

3. I love baking sourdough bread. If there was an opportunity for me to intern in a bakery, I would do it!
