HOW TO PREP FOR EASTER IN WEST TEXAS

Image via Hello-Hayley

With wildflowers in full bloom and green grass coming to in every neighbors’ yards – not to mention balmy, 70° days – West Texas feels ready for one of our favorite holidays: Easter.

In fact, it is no coincidence that TSG West Texas hits the photoshoot season hard this time of year. It is, after all, one of the very best times for photoshoots because of the clear wide open skies, and the consistent feeling of renewal in the air.

As we continue to lean in on celebrating, we’re sharing a few ways to source ahead of Spring’s most coveted Sunday.

BRUNCH BASICS

SOURCE LOCAL FOODS | For the freshest flown-in seafood, meat sourced by people you can trust and fresh organic veggies, Midland Meat Company is nearly a one-stop shop ahead of brunch. For the oils, sauces, flavors and complements from the charcuterie board, look no further than McJack General Store.

SIGNATURE COCKTAIL, ANYONE? | We’re dubbing this year’s Easter Sunday cocktail as the Paloma.

RECIPE:
2 oz tequila
2 oz of Marfa Spirits Rio Grande Grapefruit Liqueur
2 oz of sparkling water
1/2 oz of fresh lime juice
1/4 oz of agave nectar or simple syrup
Salt on the rim is optional, but adding some ice to it is not.
*Editors Note: We like to strain it through the ice and serve it up as an ice cold cocktail in a nice and tall martini glass from Hyacinth Home.

WITHOUT THE MESS | To skimp on the hosting but not on the quality and enjoyment of family time, we’re heading to a local spot for Easter brunch. We recommend Cork and Pig!

SETTING THE SCENE

FURNISHINGS | While tablecloths, centerpieces, and mom’s old china often make an appearance on this coveted day, the table, chairs and furnishings add their own set of touches. If you’re in need of something new for a special touch, head to Habitat Midland for their Easter Sale. Draw an egg and open it up for a surprise discount (up to 50% – March 29th & 30th). We can’t think of a more meaningful table to sit around than one that we know gave back to the cause of providing housing for our neighbors in the Permian Basin.

PLACE SETTINGS & FLATWARE | Shop local for plateware, silverware and more at Hyacinth Home. If you’re ill-prepared (we’ve been there) or just wanting to wait on the tablescape investment, look to Bivardi for their Easter Rentals. From gorgeous orchids and gold flatware and plates, to tasteful goblets for that signature cocktail, you can rent and return without the hastle of storing seasonal items in your home.

FLORAL TOUCHES | When it comes to an Easter table, the one place not to skimp on is the floral. Lucky for us in West Texas, we have options. From florals and tropicals at Botanical Boutique, to the “Bigger than Texas” Arrangement at Velvet Mesquite, a beautiful table is not far away. If you’re looking to do something a bit different this year, opt for a garden-esque centerpiece. Head to Allredge’s and get creative on utilizing natural nursery flowers in pots as table decor.

PERSONAL ELEMENTS & PARTING GIFTS | We’ve scouted all around and it’s safe to say we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to the special touches. Our favorites include these custom styros from Goldiluxxe, the cutest bunny glasses and peeps platter from Sgt. Pepper’s, Anne Neilson Easter scripture cards, and all 7 ounces of the the Lillian Tall Martini Glass from Hyacinth Home, perfect for your Specialty Marfa Spirits cocktail.

THE MONDAY MORNING HANGOVER, FIGURATIVE OR NOT | Whether Sunday became funday or the house is just a bit out of sorts from hosting family & friends, our local businesses have our backs. Call Tidy Up Midland if the home is in need of sprucing. If it’s you in need of a some self care, our friends at Simply have monthly specials all of April.

DRESS TO IMPRESS

Easter Dress

Kirby’s Closet | For the girls both grown-up and little, we’re loving the bright selections here, like this geometric halter maxi and his sweet bow strapped floral dress pairs perfectly with a cute pink bunny.

Raba | If this weekend has you in Marfa, Texas, don’t miss out on this casual cool vintage shop. If I were you, I’d plan to spend your West Texas Easter in a sensational caftan from their rack.

Simply Jane Boutique | This ruffle sleeve textured top is perfect for whether you’re throwing on jeans and boots, or dressing it up with a skirt and heels. It’s easy to layer with and it’s at the top of our recommendations for wear.

Nines Apparel | Always on top of the latest trends, Nines Apparel is not short on fashionable choices for the weekend, making it hard to narrow it down to a few selections. Despite the challenge, we’re picking the Charlotte dress and pairing it with these camel-colored sandals for a relaxed yet elevated look.

Lucchese | These days, cowboy boots are basically a formal affair and we’re eyeing the wearable Pris Boots in Pebble Grey.

E.F. Outfitters | West Texas Easter meets casual and cool in the Crosscut Deluxe Sun Beams shirt from Howler Brothers.

A Little Extra | Add a bright and shiny touch, or (ahem) gift the host with a special something from these local jewelers; Cathy Easem Fine Jewelry, Lola & Tae, Four Sisters and Sam L Majors.

Toppers | Sunny days are ahead and nothing completes the look like a hat from Handed Heritage.

And when the Easter centerpieces and flowers in the vases around the home start to wither away, head to the Bynum School (5100 Avalon Drive Midland, Texas) to refresh with a purpose for “Bynum Blooms”. On Tuesday, April 9th from 8 a.m. til’ 4 p.m. and Wednesday, April 10th from 1 p.m. til’ 6 p.m., you can pick up various student made decor items, florals from geraniums to seasonal perennials, and fresh vegetables.

As you head into the community to source locally this Easter, remember to tell them your friends at TSG West Texas sent you!
