The Scouted Calendar / February 2016

It may be the shortest month, but February brings so many wonderful events to our Scouted cities. In addition to art festivals, golf getaways, and horse shows, the month holds many fun and festive opportunities to give back to our communities. Here are some of the activities that are on our Scouted February calendar:

Charleston, South Carolina

Ladies who like to hit the links should consider booking a trip to South Carolina February 25-28, when Kiawah Island Golf Resort is hosting a women’s golf getaway. At the “Golfing Gals Bootcamp,” attendees will address trouble shots and learn new skills with the help of seasoned professionals in a setting dubbed the #1 golf resort by Travel + Leisure Golf{Find local recommendations for what to do and see in Charleston here.}

Equestrian

On February 3, six weeks of Hunter, Jumper, and Equitation classes kick off at the Pima County Fairgrounds in Tucson, Arizona, for the HITS Arizona Winter Circuit—a show that’s sure to be exciting! {Find more equestrian events we’re looking forward to here.}

Jackson, Mississippi

Design firm and furniture boutique SummerHouse offers Jackson residents the opportunity to enjoy art and refreshments and support a good cause on February 11 from 5 – 8 p.m., when they will host “For the Love of Art.” At the event, which is part of the Lee Loves Local campaign organized by Lee Industries, works by regional artists will be on display, and attendees are encouraged to make a $10 donation to Stewpot Community Services, which assists Jackson’s poor and homeless population. {Find local recommendations for what to do and see in Jackson here.}

Miami, Florida

Celebrating its 75th year, the Miami International Boat Show will take place February 11-15, and will be held in a new venue: the historic Miami Marine Stadium Park. Powerboats, sailboats, yachts, classic models, and antiques will all be on display. Overlapping the boat show to make for quite a weekend of fun, the Coconut Grove Arts Festival offers the opportunity to check out original art and enjoy live music in Miami’s classic artist enclave. {Find local recommendations for what to do and see in Miami here.}

Minneapolis, Minnesota

A fashion show featuring Twin Cities local celebrities—including TSG Minneapolis editor Kerry Ciardelli!—the fifth annual Red Dress Collection in support of The American Heart Association’s Go Red Women’s Program will take place on Saturday, February 13 at the Loews Hotel. Sponsored by St. Jude Medical, the event includes a cocktail hour and the chance to see one-of-a-kind gowns on the runway. {Find local recommendations for what to do and see in Minneapolis here.}

Nashville, Tennessee

February 12 – 14, the Antiques & Garden Show of Nashville, which benefits Cheekwood and ECON, will be held in the Music City Center, with Gwyneth Paltrow as the featured speaker; a lecture by Bunny Williams and Brian McCarthy; a Bourbon Party hosted by The Scout Guide; a design panel with Suzanne Rheinestein, Mark D. New Orleans, Louisiana

Mardi Gras is Tuesday, February 9, but of course the festivities are in full swing way before then in New Orleans. Don’t miss the gorgeous floats, but be sure to visit the fantastic boutiques, art galleries, antiques and home furnishing stores, restaurants, and more while you’re in town! {Find local recommendations for what to do and see in New Orleans HERE.}

Raleigh | Durham | Chapel Hill, North Carolina

There is always so much to do in the Triangle! February includes Fearrington’s annual Folk Art Show, which takes place on the 20th and 21st, when the Barn at Fearrington Village is filled with work by folk artists from across the South; three nights of romantic dinners at Durham’s Counting House to celebrate Valentine’s Day on the 12th, 13th, and 14th; and the Carolina Ballet Winter Ball, which features cocktails, delicious fare, live and silent auctions, and a brief performance by Principal dancers, on February 27 downtown at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. {Find local recommendations for what to do and see in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill here.}

Richmond, Virginia

February 20, the Children’s Hope Gala, which will benefit two of Bon Secours’s pediatric programs, will be held in the historic Jefferson Hotel.
