‘Tis the season to be bold with fashion choices. “This is the summer of expressing yourself through colors and patterns,” Jennifer Kallstrom, owner of Love, Celine in Bonita Springs, Florida, says. Patterns of all varieties are big this summer. From florals to animal motifs, cheeky prints will replace the minimalist leaning of cold-weather stylings.

Cool crochet
Textured crocheted pieces had the run of fashion runways this season. “Miu Miu, Ralph Lauren, and Zimmerman are all showing this trend for summer,” Susan Adair, co-owner, stylist, and creative director of Nest Boutique in Asheville, North Carolina, says. “Adding both a nostalgic touch and a contemporary edge to traditional summer looks.” She recommends styling these textured pieces with more understated elements such as denim, cotton basics, and swimwear.

Juicy Hues
A coup for clementine and all things citrus hued, Nell Kedrow, co-owner of Est8te in Knoxville, Tennessee, reports that orange is the standout shade this season and one of the major summer 2024 fashion trends. From tangerine tops to coral cocktail attire, this once intimidating color is making a splash and Kedrow is encouraging customers to jump right in.

Go Wide
A classic and surprisingly wearable style, wide-leg pants continue to rank high on fashionistas‘ wardrobe wish-lists this season. Whether rocking it in a trouser material or a lighter-weight denim, Tricia Divaris, owner of Trish Boutique in Virginia Beach, Virginia, loves the new long and lean look of this perennial trend. She suggests pairing wide-leg styles with a more fitted, cropped, or tucked in top and a flat sandal, sneaker, or wedge for footwear. This versatile look that can take you anywhere around the world, day or night.

Modern Femme
Femininity goes modern this season with creamy textures, fine embroidery, airy cottons, flowing silks, and sheer whites. “Designers like Chloé, Acne Studios, and Carolina Herrera are leading the way in creating a refined and elegant aesthetic while maintaining a fresh modern approach,” Adair says.

The Long Side of Denim
The denim skirt has been everywhere this year and will remain a sartorial staple for summertime. “The denim midi and maxi skirt came back on the scene in the fall and gave us major 70s vibes,” Kedrow says. Try out this throwback style with a lighter wash for warmer weather and style it with a graphic t-shirt and sneakers for the ultimate cool girl look.

Shell yes
Get ready for some “pura vida” vibes! Seashells have made a comeback and are at the top of summer 2024 fashion trends. More than a beachcombing pastime, or the kitsch found in a boardwalk tchotchke shop, according to Kallstrom, shells are the accessory accent of the moment. Align with this carefree aesthetic by donning shells in hair accessories, shoes, purses, and even patterns.

The new Neutral
For footwear, forget beige, black, and white. According to Divaris, the best neutrals of the season are metallics. From gold and silver to copper and bronze, metallic footwear exudes understated elegance and complements any look. Keeping things seasonal, Divaris gravitates toward open-toed looks, whether it’s a silver sandal or a block heel in shimmery gold.
