Board-Certified Surgeons

Dr. Robert Chandler, MD: Dr. Robert Chandler has been in practice for 19 years. A Tennessee native, Dr. Chandler graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, as the recipient of a four-year ROTC scholarship, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force upon his commencement in 1984. Dr. Chandler has devoted a great deal of his career to service, whether in the armed forces or on plastic surgery missions. Dr. Chandler joined The Plastic Surgery Group of Memphis in 2004. Dr. Chandler has extensive experience in cleft lip and palate reconstruction, burn reconstruction, facial surgery including blepharoplasties, brow lifts, face lifts, breast surgeries including breast reconstruction, breast reduction and breast augmentation and body contouring procedures. He also has experience in microvascular free flaps for reconstruction. He is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Ellis Tavin, MD: Dr. Ellis Tavin joined the Plastic Surgery Group in 2006 after ten years in individual practice in Charlotte, North Carolina. Dr. Tavin is board-certified in both Plastic Surgery and Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, and Throat). However, he performs the full range of plastic surgery with special interests in short scar breast lift and breast reduction, body contouring after pregnancy or weight loss, Brazilian butt lift, nose reshaping, male chest contouring, and holds a special interest in breast reconstruction after partial mastectomy (lumpectomy). Dr. Tavin is a globally renowned plastic surgeon and was one of 125 doctors invited to present a paper during the scientific session of the 2013 meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in San Diego. The ASPS Annual Meeting is attended by thousands of the industry’s top board-certified plastic surgeons from the US and other countries.

Dr. Melissa Kath, MD: Dr. Kath majored in biology at Colorado College and completed medical school at the University of Minnesota before venturing South to The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. For her general surgery residency, she headed to our nation’s capital and the Washington Hospital Center in Washington DC. Dr. Kath made Memphis her next home as she completed her plastic surgery residency at our very own University of Tennessee Health Science Center. After a fellowship in Aesthetic and Reconstructive Breast Surgery with Dennis Hammond in Grand Rapids, MI, Dr. Kath headed south once again to join us at the Plastic Surgery Group of Memphis. In her spare time, Dr. Kath enjoys running, baking, and spending time with her family.

Dr. Carey Campbell, MD: Dr. Campbell, a native Memphian, is passionate about the power of cosmetic surgery and how it can restore a patient’s confidence and self-esteem. Dr. Campbell’s residency was in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at UT Southwestern. Her mentors were world-renowned surgeons, and she was appointed administrative chief resident in her final year. Following, she moved to New York City with an Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship at Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital, the highest volume cosmetic surgery hospital in the U.S. Dr. Campbell is also an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Campbell enjoys spending time with her family outside of work.

Dr. Sarah Hammond, MD: Dr. Hammond moved to Memphis to earn her M.D. at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. As a medical student, she served at La Clinica Esperanza, a clinic for the underserved and uninsured Spanish-speaking people in Memphis, Tennessee. She was named a National Institutes of Health Medical Student Research Fellow. She completed a Plastic Aesthetic, Reconstructive, and Transgender Surgery at the University of Miami. She was appointed Chief Resident during her final year. Dr. Hammond chose to pursue further training in pediatric plastic surgery and completed a Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery Fellowship at LeBonheur and St. Jude Children’s Hospitals. During this time, she fine-tuned the skills needed to treat pediatric traumatic and congenital defects with a special interest in cleft lip and palate care, which was the original impetus for her desire to become a plastic surgeon.
