Integral to The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale’s mission is telling the stories behind the small businesses Scouted in each Volume. The story begins in print and continues online, after all. And, wherever possible, we partner with local businesses to create new, shared chapters with these excellent local businesses. The most recent example of this commitment is our Volume 3 launch party, a unique opportunity to collaborate with a handful of talented experts for an unforgettable evening of celebrating local.

We initially scouted Cammie Cutter of the eponymous Cammie Cutter Designs for Volume 2 of The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale. We’d seen her beautiful, hand-painted champagne bottles at several local celebrations and were eager to recruit her talents for The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale. Her contribution to Volume 2’s launch party was stunning, and we have yet to pop our hand-painted mini bottle of Veuve for fear of dulling its ultra-custom, precious feel. It is, if we say so ourselves, the perfect memento. And we plan to display, rather than sip, this year’s Cammie Cutter Designs luxe launch party takeaway. In that vein, we chatted with the artist behind the custom bottle designs, discussing her artistry, inspiration, and local favorites.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Let’s start at the beginning. How did Cammie Cutter Designs take shape?
Cammie Cutter: It was a happy accident! I was planning a grand bridal shower for 50 guests and had invested in ample supplies and, of course, champagne. Then Covid hit, and the party was postponed. With an abundance of time, supplies, and determination to make the best of the situation, I channeled my energy and creativity into crafting custom bottles for upcoming events. People really responded to my work, and the business took off! It has been a great fit as I’d long been yearning for a creative, innovative outlet aligned with my lifelong attention to detail.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Post-Covid, celebrations are back in a big way. What does business look like now?
Cammie Cutter: It has been great! Today, I work with a variety of clients — from fellow small business owners to corporations — to realize their visions for ultra-custom gifts. The attention to detail, however, remains the same whether I am creating a bottle for a new home owner or a nonprofit organization. Every single bottle is thoughtfully designed to be one-of-a-kind.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: What’s the most rewarding part of the job?
Cammie Cutter: Each design is commissioned and gifted to commemorate a moment of happiness and excitement — be it birthday, new baby, or new Scout Guide — which is so special to be a part of. I love creating something that brings joy and happiness to my clients.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Let’s chat about your clients. What can clients expect from the commission process?
Cammie Cutter: A very personalized experience. I believe there’s no other professional in the world that provides me with the same level of pure, unadulterated happiness, and that’s solely due to my clients. I love working with them one-on-one to create a bottle perfectly suited to their occasion and taste.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Can you walk us through the process of how these beautiful bottles come to life?
Cammie Cutter: The creative journey starts with a client meeting. We discuss their vision, and I invite them to share photographs, invitations, mood boards, and, of course, timelines. With this foundation, I craft digital mockups, tweaking the design until the client’s vision is fully realized. Upon their approval, we start work on the bottle, an intricate process of priming, painting, and layering artwork.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: As an artist, where do you draw inspiration?
Cammie Cutter: My clients are the greatest source of inspiration. They play a vital role in shaping my work and honing my craft.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: What is it like seeing your work in the wild?
Cammie Cutter: It is so rewarding when they take the time to share my creation, and even more rewarding when they share their experience working with me with their friends and family. Knowing that my clients trust me (and my talent) enough to refer me is humbling.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: As we understand, word of mouth has been the chief source of growth for Cammie Cutter Designs. It’s a testament to the beauty of your work and our community’s commitment to supporting local. What do you love about being a Valley local?
Cammie Cutter: I agree, and in the 40+ years I’ve called Phoenix home, I’ve been fortunate to find really fulfilling friendships and connections. In addition to incredible weather, amazing restaurants, and beautiful landscapes, we have such a special community.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Let’s talk about the community. More specifically how you’re involved in giving back to you it. Earlier you mentioned that clients and recipients of your gorgeous custom gifts include nonprofits. Can you speak to this?
Cammie Cutter: I am extremely passionate about working with children and animals, and it’s been so rewarding to use my business to contribute to causes I hold dear. Most recently, I had the privilege of working with my fellow Scouted Member, PANDA, creating and donating bottles for their annual fashion show’s live auction.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: When you’re not creating custom, hand-painted bottles for fellow Scouted Members, where can we find you?
Cammie Cutter: I have a few favorite spots around town — like The Henry, Chelsea’s Kitchen, and Scottsdale Marketplace — where you’ll likely spot me!
