Classic and comfortable, club chairs are always a good choice when the goal is to create a cozy seating area; add a light neutral fabric, as in the above living room by Alexandria, Virginia’s Ivy Lane, and you’ll have an arrangement that will never feel stale. Whether left clean and simple or styled with pillows and a soft throw, the conversation-friendly coupling is a timeless way to outfit a space.

Who wouldn’t want to spend a few hours in the light-filled project by Greenwich’s Lillian August (left)? Facing a curved sofa, the club chairs done in a subtle, sophisticated tone-on-tone pattern help complete the airy space. Right, a soft, chic corner in a room by Northern New Jersey-based Jeffrey Haines is enhanced by a beautiful creamy chair that marries perfectly with the hand painted mural.

We love how Memphis-based interior designer Sean Anderson created a calming, sophisticated sunroom (above) with gorgeously shaped seating, a clean palette, and a few well-placed natural elements.

Venturing into slightly more statement-making territory, these “Piper” swivel chairs from Circa’s Catbird Collection designed by Susan Ferrier would nonetheless be easy to incorporate into a space with their sculptural lines and gorgeous grey hue.

For those who like to change things up from time to time, white slipcovers are a perfect solution. Savannah’s Mary Jo Bochner shows how they can be used to create a cohesive look that also offer a perfect backdrop for eye-catching accents.

Adding an equestrian detail always ups the elegance factor. This is abundantly clear in the above space featuring chairs by The Scout Guide Equestrian’s Julie Browning Bova.

Christy Ford’s picks for a Chic take on the traditional club chair look

1. The Kellogg Collection “Alden Chair” featuring a loose cushion back and seat with large rolled arms and tapered wood legs with casters. Available in other fabrics.

2. JADE “Camilla Chair” shown with Manor Green finish and Norway Arctic White fabric.

3. Laura Lee Clark “Macassar Ebony Lounge Chair” by Bolier.
