Into The Dark

While we’ve devoted a lot of space to white rooms on The Scouted Life, we’re certainly not afraid of the dark. Black, dark grey, and deep, saturated shades of green and brown can be beautiful in the home, conveying elegance and providing a gorgeous contrast for furnishings and decorative elements. Anyone in need of convincing only has to look at the above image from the portfolio of Northern New Jersey-based Michael Aiduss Interiors & Architecture, which gorgeously illustrates how when expertly executed, black paint’s potential knows no bounds.

Yet again, Michael Aiduss makes a bold and luxurious statement by marrying dark walls with white trim. We love how he’s punctuated the dark grey walls with portraits in gilt frames and warmed up the corner with a perfectly placed demilune.

This dining room by Birmingham’s AG Designs shows how bright a black room can be. The gold, mirrored, and crystal furnishings and accents and ample natural light are reflected off the dark walls and ceiling’s glossy finish, creating an almost glowing effect.

In her Douglas Drive project, Lisa Palmer of Jackson, Mississippi’s SummerHouse expertly employs a rich, chocolatey hue that’s warm, sophisticated, and inviting.

Powder rooms are the perfect place for a little drama, and Revival Interiors achieves maximum impact with dark textured walls contrasted with delicate linens and the clean lines of the marble sink.

How beautiful is this space by Baltimore’s Antique Exchange Interiors? The black windows are absolutely stunning, especially when paired with the pale pink textiles. We could spend hours enjoying this chic window seat.

Atlanta-based Robert Brown Interior Design has a number of handsome dark-hued rooms in his portfolio. The one above is a rich green that bounces off light and creates a sense of coziness in the chic, well collected space.

Memphis’s Sean Anderson Design provided our TSG Tip on the perfect black paint color, and the above space demonstrates why he’s an expert on the subject. The black panels provide an exquisite backdrop for furniture and accessories in soothing, neutral palettes and wonderful textures.
