Back-to-school Style, Part 1: Girls Just Want to Have Fun

The start of the school year is causing a lot of excitement at TSG HQ. Among the elementary school set (who have been frequent fixtures around the office since June), there’s the feeling that they’re about to start a new grade and get to see new and old friends every day; meanwhile, parents are already starting to adjust schedules and assess lists of required school supplies. Somewhere between saying goodbye to summer and soothing first-day jitters is, of course, the back-to-school shopping spree. To help parents and children alike get excited about the task, we sought out some of our favorite fall looks from throughout the TSG network—including the absolutely adorable vintage cardigan available from Lexington, Kentucky’s Bella Bliss, shown above, which we wish came in our size!—and today we’re showing off our finds for girls. Stay tuned for part 2 later this week, in which we’ll share our picks for boys.

A colorful Stella McCartney Arlo Girls Cloud T-Shirt with Jewels from Petit Bebe in Charlottesville is a cheerful pick that will nicely transition into fall, especially when paired with high-quality basics like Tea Pointelle Leggings and Elephantito Western Boots (Goodnight Moon in Minneapolis carries line) or DL1961 Harper Boyfriend jeans, available from Vann & Liv in Greenville, South Carolina.

How great is this Jolie Dress, also available from Vann & Liv? We love how it’s accessorized here with yellow-and-white Mary Janes and a mustard-toned scarf, creating an ensemble with style to spare.

Army green, pattern mixing, and animals, oh my! The Pink Chicken Army jacket and Ava and Margo tops (Whimsies in Charlottesville carries the line) are items we would wear, while the giraffe-print Pink Chicken dress, available from Terra Tots in Jackson Hole, is too cute for words and can be worn well into fall with a few easy layering pieces.

For the little sophisticate, a boucle skirt and jacket and glamour girl tee from Janie and Jack at The Grove at Shrewsbury in Two Rivers, New Jersey, are a must. While the skirt and jacket may only be picture-day appropriate, the tee is a tres chic casual piece that can be enjoyed year-round.

Ruby Ford’s picks

As we were perusing Charlotte-based children’s store Tiny’s offerings, TSG co-founder Christy Ford’s daughters happened to stop by the Editorial room to say hello, so of course we asked for their opinions. Above are Ruby’s picks (clockwise from top left): Stella McCartney Kids Sparkles Faux Fur Coat, Amalie Star Tulle Skirt, and Enid Mary Jane Shoes.

Tulip Ford’s Picks

Not to be outdone, the youngest Ford put together the above fierce outfit (clockwise from top left): Chloe Girls Animal Character Printed Long Sleeve Tee, Stella McCartney Kids BLACK NINA JEANS, Scotch R’Belle Espadrilles, all available from Tiny.

With Ruby’s pink palette and Tulip’s play-ready pieces in mind, we sought out items that might suit both (and result in some sweet hand-me-downs). Atelier/Child’s “The Check” sweater is pretty swoon-worthy (according to their Instagram feed, Katebaby & Kids in Aspen, Colorado, will soon carry the line).

Also excellent options, clockwise from top left: A Vince fleece colorblocked sweatshirt with side zippers (Mignon Children’s Boutique in New Orleans carries line), DL1961 Chloe Skinny in Flatiron jeans available from Vann & Liv in Greenville, Dolce Vita Coraline Black Boots available from Frankie’s on The Park in Chicago, and Sophia Dress in “Oyster” available from Vann & Liv. Happy shopping!
