Refresh your space with the team at Design Lab

“Concept to Completion Interior Design Services” is the headline on Design Lab’s website, and after visiting their location on Monte Sano Avenue, they sure do offer it all!  Design Lab opened in June 2023 and is THE place to go for any of your home decor’s needs.  As you enter the front door you are greeted by Interior Designers Elizabeth Williams and Kathy Conner and a beautiful showroom that is filled with fabric samples lining one wall, wallpaper books neatly housed under a long counter, and cozy “sample” rooms that you would just like to copy and paste into your own home.

Walk-ins are always welcome (but you can make an appointment, too), and there are no minimums so it’s fine if you are just looking to get a couple pillows made or an existing furniture piece recovered. Elizabeth and Kathy are there to help with as much or a little as the client may need. “We have people come in, and we don’t even see their house – they just bring in photos – or we will do house calls so we can actually see the space,” says Elizabeth. “We work either way.”With people trying to do more on their own thanks to shows such as HGTV, this is the perfect place to be more hands on when it comes to decorating.

Design Lab can help with everything from furniture, lighting, wallpaper, fabrics, cabinet hardware, tile, art, countertops, flooring, drapery and hardware.  In addition, they have their own rug line and can even help pick paint colors.  “We have workrooms that can make the items for the client as well or they can just order the fabric from us and use their own,” adds Kathy. Design Lab also offers space planning. It’s truly a one-stop shop and the only business like this in the area.

As January is here and people may be looking for a room refresh of some sort, both Elizabeth and Kathy suggest the quickest and easiest way is to change fabrics. This can be done by adding new pillows, draperies or reupholstering a chair or sofa. Another idea is to update your lighting, and Design Lab carries unique lighting from Visual Comfort & Co. “This is an easy way to refresh and not have to start completely from scratch,” says Kathy. As for recent trends, texture is really big as well as warmer colors like clays, dark greens and tans.  Boucles are also everywhere, according to Elizabeth and Kathy.

“We are a mix between going to a designer and just going to a showroom,” says Kathy. “We make it accessible for people because there are fabrics that we have that a fabric store won’t have.” There are no limits, and Elizabeth and Kathy want people to feel comfortable to just come in and dig through fabric samples and wallpaper books. Customers are encouraged to check out and try fabric samples at their home as well since the fabric may look different at home versus the showroom. Open from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Design Lab is your one-stop shop for it all when it comes to decorating your home.  Come on in — everyone is welcome!
