7 Things Our Triad Editor Is Loving Right Now

Photography by Liz Grogan Owen.

Our editors are tastemakers in their cities and towns—and as advocates for local businesses, it’s their job to Scout and celebrate their finds. Here, Ashley Powell Nosek, editor of The Scout Guide Triad in Greensboro, Winston Salem, and High Point, North Carolina, shares a few of her current faves—from her latest binge read to the designer clutch on her wishlist.

1. WHAT I’M WEARING

Cult Gaia Eos Clutch from Hive | “I love to collect interesting clutches. I’ve been doing it my entire adult life—fun and funky, from local boutiques are my go-to for evenings out. Owners and mother-daughter duo, Morgan and Lori at Hive, in Winston-Salem, always have a gorgeous new bag every time I walk through the door. I am currently loving their Cult Gaia line and I’m planning to pick up this fun one very soon!”

2. WHAT I’M DECORATING WITH

Holiday Decor from ABBA Design | “My husband and I throw a big Christmas Party every year and my go-to gal is Tonya Morris at ABBA Design. She always adds lovely, interesting accents to my normal Christmas décor. Every year is different and stunning. Tonya and her team will travel all over the Triad to help with events and décor, so if you’re in the area, definitely give her a shout and add some oomph to your house during the holidays!”

3. WHAT I’M COVETING

Artwork by Ashley Vanore | “One of my favorite local artists is Ashley Vanore. Every time I walk into her studio, I am stunned by whatever piece she is working on at that time. From her abstracts to her landscapes, I really appreciate her level of detail and perfect use of color. Right now I am leaning toward a landscape commission of the Debordieu marsh.”

4. WHERE I’M GOING

Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts | “My entire adult life I have been obsessed with musicals. I studied theater in London one summer in college at Duke, I go to NYC every chance I get to see new musicals…seriously obsessed. Fortunately, Greensboro now has the Tanger Center downtown, meaning easier access to Broadway musicals. My husband and I have season tickets–it is a true gem in our area.”

5. WHAT I’M GIFTING

Wine from The Loaded Grape | “I’ve become an amateur collector of wines, specifically Napa reds and Willamette Valley Pinot Noirs. In addition to periodic wine trips out West to indulge this hobby, I am a frequent shopper and member of the Wine Club at The Loaded Grape in Greensboro. The owners Danny and Andy have combined their unique talents into a wine shop and wine bar that offers curated and interesting options for both our personal cellar and for gifting to others. So when in doubt, I text my guys and have them pull a bottle for me. It’s my favorite stop for hostess gifts!”

6. WHAT I’M DRINKING

An Old-Fashioned | “My go-to cocktail is an Old-Fashioned made with Basil Hayden. I am a fortunate woman that two of my favorite restaurants in town, 1618 West and Gia, both excel at this cocktail, as well as many others. If you’re in the area and want a good stiff drink and access to a fabulous bartender, check out these two options!”

7. WHAT I’M READING

Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros | “Once I start a book, I can’t put it down. I just finished binging Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros (the follow-up to her book, Fourth Wing). Both were seriously addictive novels and I am likely going to read them both again when we go to the mountains after Christmas.”
