7 Things Our Charleston Editors Are Loving Right Now

As advocates for small businesses, The Scout Guide editors are continually scouting their communities for local finds to share and celebrate. With their fingers on the pulse, they are also excellent sources of unique recommendations. Recently, we caught up with The Scout Guide Charleston editors Julie Hubert and Jennifer McKian to to find out what they’re really excited about these days. Here, they share their current obsessions, from an ultralight sunscreen to art they’re loving to a must-have travel accessory.

1. WHAT WE’RE INSPIRED BY

Chambers Austelle Limited Edition Print // “Chambers Austelle is a contemporary figurative painter and educator living and working in Charleston who is best known for her compositions of vivid color and female subjects. Chambers’s art is everywhere around the city, from private collections to corporate offices to restaurants and everywhere in between. We’re smitten with her bright colors and unique perspective.”

2. WHAT WE’RE USING

Eryfotona Ageless from Koniver Aesthetics // “We’re loving this high-end sunscreen that’s an ultralight, tinted mineral product that actually helps fight the signs of photoaging. It not only protects your skin like a sunscreen, it actually repairs and corrects your skin. We especially love that you can get it in a tinted color, which makes it so much easier to rub in than a white cream!”

3. WHAT WE’RE COVETING

Leather Atelier Floral Collar from Jahde // “Inspired by the notorious Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Jahde went all out on some stunning new collar designs for 2021. This beauty is a Jahde Lady favorite, the original Queen Collar, but on a whole new level. The Floral Collar really makes a statement with any outfit and is perfect for layering!”

4. WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

The Great on Hulu // We’re obsessed with this historical series about Catherine The Great of Russia starring Elle Fanning. Tagged as an ‘occasionally true story,’ we’re here for the hilarious characters, over-the-top costumes, witty quips, and sarcasm. As a matter of fact,  it’s where we got our signature phrase, ‘Huzzah!’ The new season recently dropped, just in time for cozy season.”

5. WHAT WE’RE GIFTING

No. 13 Spanish Moss from Charleston Candle Co. // “Made in the low country, these candles are authentically southern. They are all-natural and hand-poured in small batches. Spanish Moss is our favorite scent and Charleston Candle Company’s best seller. We love giving these as hostess gifts or to guests from out of town who want a Charleston souvenir.”

6. WHAT WE’RE SEEING

Decorated Homes on The Battery and South of Broad Neighborhood // “It’s no secret that Charleston has the most beautiful homes, but you haven’t seen Charleston until you see it decorated for Christmas. Homes downtown, especially on The Battery and South of Broad, are decorated to the nines. December weather is still very pleasant and walking around seeing the seasonal decorations is a favorite pastime of ours. Historic homes with wreaths and magnolia swags are always swoon-worthy.”

7. WHAT WE’RE WEARING

Leather Sayre Sling from Taxidermy // “The Sayre Sling is the queen of all crossbody bags. This classic style has been updated in luxurious leather and has a soft, flexible feel. We love this bag because it’s large enough to hold all your essentials, comfortable enough for everyday use, and a must-have for travel. Plus it features the iconic Taxidermy logo, which gives the purse that little something extra.”
