7 Things Our Ann Arbor Editor Is Loving Right Now

As advocates for small businesses, The Scout Guide editors are continually scouting their communities for local finds to share and celebrate. With their fingers on the pulse, they are also excellent sources of unique recommendations. Recently, we caught up with The Scout Guide Ann Arbor editor Lori Lorenz to find out what she’s really excited about these days. Here, she shares a few of her current obsessions, from her favorite podcast to her go-to makeup.

1. what i’m using

Makeup from Bohmey Beauty | Everything they carry at this local Ann Arbor skincare, make-up and lifestyle boutique focuses on clean beauty, which really matters to me. As a skin cancer patient, I pay special attention to everything that I put on my body. I like to mix the Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 with Ere Perez Oat Milk Foundation for the perfect foundation shade, texture, and SPF coverage.

2. what i’m doing

Supporting the Local Community and Attending Local Events | “Serving, helping, and loving others is my mission in life. Currently, my three favorite charities include Ele’s Place, that supports grieving children and their families; Ronald McDonald House of Ann Arbor, a place for families to temporarily live while their child receives treatment; and the Charles Woodson Fund, which supports physician-scientist and research investigators whose work is in its earliest stages of development. I’m also a big supporter of the University of Michigan Women’s Hockey Team, which depends on donations to keep their program going strong.”

3. what i’m listening to

The Motherload Podcast | “This podcast is by my dear, local friend Leslie Loewe. You’ll find real and raw motherhood conversations here. Leslie is the friend everyone wishes they had!”

4. what’s in my home

Home Interior Books from Whitetail | “I’m a bookworm at heart and Whitetail curates a wonderful selection of interior books. I always draw inspiration from them.”

5. what i’m gifting

Treasures from Local Shops | “All of my baby gifts come from My Urban Toddler where the founder Rosa Lee hand-selects and customizes every gift. Rock Paper Scissors is my go-to when I’m looking for a snarky laugh for a girlfriend and I hit up Leyla for luxury items. I visit Thistle & Bess for rare, one-of-a kind finds and Found to support local artists and find something unexpected. I’m happy to report all are shoppable online!”

6. what i’m wearing

Faux Patent Leather Leggings from Ferne Boutique | “My style is a mix between classic, sporty, and edgy—but always comfortable. Ferne Boutique is wonderfully curated so I can always find something that fits my look. These rocker chic leggings they carry check all the boxes.”

7. what i’m drinking

Venue by 4M Dr. Booze Mocktail | “I’m really into the alcohol-free lifestyle these days, and I adore the house mocktail at this local spot. It’s herbal with floral hints and made with non-alcoholic gin, basil, lavender, and lemon. The complexity of the drink means I don’t miss the booze one bit. I’m thrilled they were willing to share the recipe with me. ”

Dr. Booze Mocktail

  • 3/4 ounce non-alcoholic gin (Venue uses Pentire Non-Alcoholic Spirits)
  • 3/4 ounce lemon syrup
  • 1/4 ounce honey-basil syrup
  • 2 dashes of lavender bitters
  • 2 ounces lemon kombucha

Stir together and serve in a wine glass on the rocks. Garnish with edible flowers.
