Every season comes with an influx of new trends, but what we’re really interested in are the real-life looks fashion experts are gravitating toward this fall. After all, it’s one thing to see pretty products and decked-out models on Instagram and another to witness real-life locals incorporating of-the-moment items into their everyday looks. Recently, we reached out to six fashion mavens across the country for insights into the key pieces they’re most excited to don this autumn. Here, they share their seasonal must-haves and advice for keeping your closet current in the coming months.

WHO: Becca Brisiel, owner of Maude
WHERE: Fayetteville, Arkansas
WHAT SHE’S WEARING: “This fall, I am most excited about wearing wide leg pants. These high waisted and wide leg plaid pants are equally stylish and comfortable, and they can be styled for all occasions. I styled them here with a linen crop top and French corduroy blazer. They could also be styled as a cool off-duty look with sneakers and a tee. As for my accessories, we are also loving the fact that deeper espresso brown is back in trend, as shown in my woven bag and best-selling Dolce Vita Stella braided heels.” Shop Maude’s collection here, and to inquire about any pieces shown above, call 479.935.4700.

WHO: Shelby Tucker, owner of Shelby Jewel
WHERE: Memphis, Tennessee
WHAT SHE’S WEARING: “Here in the south, it stays warm through October, so adding plaid in the form of shorts (like these Sanford plaid shorts) with sheer tights still gives autumn feelings while letting you stay cool. I love that you can layer as it gets chillier. I’ve styled this look with a mock neck top, Brazil booties, Heidi textured crossbody from Shelby Jewel, and my own personal earrings. You can add a classic trench, blazer, or leather jacket to spice it up. It makes for a versatile transition by pulling from all the colors of the shorts—black, cream, grey. You can then easily take the shorts into spring and summer by adding a pop of color or a tank and mules.” Shop Shelby Jewel’s collection here, and to inquire about any pieces shown above, email email@example.com.

WHAT SHE’S WEARING: “Fall equals fashion to me. I love the combination of sleek leather and cozy knits each season. This year I am excited to mix in a comfortable shoe that gives a little height—the clog.” Shop Edit by LPB’s collection here, and to inquire about any pieces shown above, call 225.757.5905.

WHO: Anne Walker Miller (seated), co-owner of You Are Here
WHERE: Fort Worth, Texas
WHAT SHE’S WEARING: “I cannot wait for the cooler temperatures to come to Texas and as soon as they do I will be wearing my SPRWMN leather crop flare leggings with the coziest long cashmere cardigan from Kerri Rosenthal. It’s comfy and the happy patch details just make me smile! Paired with my Golden Goose sneakers it’s the perfect transitional look.”
WHO: Joanna Bennett (standing), co-owner of You Are Here
WHERE: Fort Worth, Texas
WHAT SHE’S WEARING: “I love the change in season from summer to fall, but our Texas weather makes it tough for me to find something that I don’t get hot in that looks seasonal! I love this dress from Ulla Johnson. It’s a great mix of colors that really feel like fall, but it’s cotton so it’s the perfect transitional piece. I wear it with a sandal or slide now and will pair with a boot and perhaps some sort of jacket when temperatures get cooler. I also love the ease of a dress and the ability to dress it up or down.” Shop You Are Here’s collection here, and to inquire about any pieces shown above, call 817.862.7466.

WHAT SHE’S WEARING: “I love natural fibers, and this 100% cotton mock neck tunic sweater is so wearable! Paired with AG Jeans it’s a classic fall look. The best accessories are a liver colored German short haired pointer and matching ABLE crossbody handbag, Betty Carré Montpelier Hoops earrings, and Lack of Color Carlo Mack hat.” Shop Zest Clothing Boutique’s collection here, and to inquire about any pieces shown above, call 540.687.8702.
