A Workout Routine You Can Stick To - BodyWorks Pilates
2023 is right around the corner and I’m sure we’ve all started working on our list of new year resolutions to better ourselves in some way. Setting these goals for ourselves is amazing but let’s be honest, most of the time our fitness related goals somehow end up getting abandoned half way through the year ( oops, guilty).
Prioritizing our health should be on the top of our to-do lists for this coming new year which is why we have gathered helpful tips from the experts at BodyWorks Pilates on how to build a workout routine you can actually stick to!
Building a Workout Routine You Can Stick Too
Establishing your goals
Having clearly defined goals will help you stay focused and consistent throughout the year. The more specific you can be with your fitness goals the better, it helps to add in weekly, monthly, and even daily goals that will add up and get you closer to achieving your long term goal. This may sound daunting but don’t worry, it can be as simple as making sure to drink enough water throughout the day or completing a few stretches before heading off to bed.
Scheduling Your Week
Taking the time to schedule what you would like your week or day to look like will help you stay organized, strategically plan ahead, and ensure you have the proper amount of time to fit in all of your personal goals. We suggest giving yourself the time to sit down before the start of every month and plan out as much of the month that you can in advance. This will help you prepare and set yourself up for success!
Finding What You Enjoy
Simply put, you are more likely to stick to something and stay consistent if you genuinely enjoy doing it. Our fitness routines should not be something we are dreading but rather something we look forward to getting to do. Start experimenting to see what you and your body enjoy doing and try to be open to dabbling in new areas such as yoga, basketball, spinning, running, pilates, swimming, or tennis (the options are endless).
Learning To Listen To Your Body
Staying consistent with our goals should be a priority however, it’s also important to realize that it’s totally ok to take breaks every now and then to let our bodies rest. If your body feels tired from your routine, don’t be afraid to take a few days off or to try a more relaxed form of exercise until you are feeling refreshed and properly energized. In other words, try to be flexible with yourself in order to make your routine more sustainable in the long run.
Getting a Membership
Getting a gym or studio membership can encourage you to show up to more classes since you are already paying for a service. This doesn’t have to be a membership to a physical studio or gym, many of us have busy schedules and online fitness memberships are a great way to incorporate classes into your day at your convenience.
Establishing The Right Mindset
Having a positive mindset throughout this whole process is what really makes a difference when it comes to sticking to your fitness goals and routines. Knowing it’s ok to not be perfect and realizing that some days you might not be able to stick to your routine but having the eagerness to try your best the next day is what will keep you on track. Try reciting positive mantras in the morning, journaling your progress, and remembering that everyday is a new opportunity for you to start fresh!
