The Beauty Of Bulbs

Now that the trappings of Thanksgiving have been put away, we’re in full-on holiday decorating mode, and one of the first things we do when preparing to deck our halls is go to our local garden center to stock up on bulbs. We love how they add a fresh, festive element to the home, and last well after we’ve rung in the the new year. Here are some of our favorite ways to use them throughout the holiday season:

• Get creative with vessels. Pull out your silver pieces, mercury glass containers, blue-and-white ginger jars, and china from the wedding cabinet, and select unexpected things in which to plant paperwhites.
• Enjoy the full cycle of the flowers. Bulbs are just as pretty pre-bloom as they are with petals, so embrace the green stalks and take comfort in the fact that  the plant will carry you through the holidays.
• Consider making bulbs your go-to hostess gift. Put them into a little votive holder or clay pot, tie on a ribbon, and you have a lovely present anyone will appreciate.
