The Scouted Calendar / December 2016

‘Tis the season to have a packed calendar, and our Scouted cities offer plenty of exciting events worth penciling in this month. From art fairs to festive holiday celebrations, here’s what we’re looking forward to in December.

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

The 6th annual Highland Nights takes place December 2, and locals do not want to miss this art hop, which includes live music, wine, and food. The event is sponsored by the Highland Road Merchants Association, and TSG Baton Rouge’s Lamps and Lighting is a participating business. {Find local recommendations for what to do and see in Baton Rouge here.}

Charlotte, North Carolina

For the second year, BRANDSHOP is hosting a speaker series in Charlotte, and this year’s lineup features talks with designer Alexa Hampton; interior designer, author, and founder of MDS Stripes Mark D. Sikes; Leontine Linens Founder (and member of TSG New Orleans) Jane Scott Hodges; and more. The talks take place on Friday, December 9, and tickets are available here. Charlottesville, Virginia

More than 50 local artists and designers will be displaying their work at The Haven Art Auction on Friday, December 2 at Old Metropolitan Hall. Dallas, Texas

On Tuesday, December 13, the George W. Bush Presidential Center hosts “Imba Means Sing: An Evening with the African Children’s Choir,” during which guests can enjoy one of the final performances in the U.S. of the African Children’s Choir and view clips from the documentary featuring former members. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view the current exhibit “A Season of Merriment and Melody,” which puts the 2004 Bush White House holiday celebration on display. Also this month, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden offers “The 12 Days of Christmas” outdoor exhibit featuring 500,000 lights every Wednesday through Sunday (except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) through January 8. Southern Living deemed it “One of the South’s best holiday experiences.” {Find local recommendations for what to do and see in Dallas here.}

Denver, Colorado

A shopping event with sales, holiday cheer, and plenty of opportunities to support local businesses, the Holiday in the Highlands Boutique Walk takes place December 9 – 11 in Highland Square. Hilton Head & Bluffton, South Carolina

A truly festive affair takes place Saturday, December 3rd in Old Town Bluffton: The Bluffton Christmas Parade kicks off at 10 a.m. The route runs from Bridget Street to Calhoun Street to May River Road to Pin Oak Street to Red Cedar Elementary. {Find local recommendations for what to do and see in Hilton Head & Bluffton here.}

Miami, Florida

The beginning of December in Miami is dominated by Miami Art Week. While many fairs opened at the end of November, the prestigious Art Basel starts December 1st at the Miami Beach Convention Center and offers the opportunity to browse works from hundreds of the world’s leading modern and contemporary galleries. Richmond, Virginia

The Richmond Ballet treats us to one of our favorite holiday traditions December 10 – 23, with sure-to-delight performances of “The Nutcracker.”  Later this month, get into the holiday spirit with cocktails and “caroling karaoke” on the rooftop of the Quirk Hotel on Sunday, December 18. Tampa, Florida

As part of its fourth annual “OE Holiday Gift Bazaar” workshops, Oxford Exchange is hosting holiday-themed classes sure to spark creativity this holiday season.
