August 2019 Calendar

In the coming weeks, summer will begin to wind down, but August still has plenty to offer as we enjoy our final weeks of freedom before the back-to-school chaos ensues. From cocktail tastings to crafts festivals to can’t-miss equestrian events, here’s what we’re looking forward to during the final weeks of the season.

Hamptons, New York

A major event on the equestrian calendar, The Hampton Classic kicks off on August 25. Huntsville, Alabama

August 9 and 10, Cheers Huntsville will take place, featuring an elevated experience for all craft cocktail, premium wine and ale lovers alike. The first evening will include a Tito’s Vodka Happy Hour, George Dickel Happy Hour, and Maker’s Mark Bourbon Dinner followed by the Gin Experience. The weekend will conclude with the Grand Tasting Gala on the second evening featuring a handful of brands and bartenders. Bentonville, Arkansas

Hosted by The Scout Guide Northwest Arkansas member Soapbox Influence, Megaphone Summit, an event that aims to inspire creative conversations about the power of social media, will take place on August 9 through 11 in Bentonville, Arkansas. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Celebrating with a full lineup of local food, art, and music, Philadelphia business owners are coming together for their eleventh annual 2nd Street Festival on Sunday, August 5, from noon until 10 p.m. One of the city’s largest craft and music festivals stretching six blocks, this year will showcase music, food, beer, gardens, clothing, artwork, workshops, and vendors of all kinds. {Find local recommendations for what to do and see in Main Line & Philadelphia here.} 

Jackson, Mississippi

On Saturday, August 24, the Mississippi Museum of Art will host Enchanted Evening, their signature fundraising event benefiting the Friends of Children’s Hospital at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, presented by BankPlus. Raleigh, North Carolina

The North Carolina Museum of Art will host “An Evening with Lyle Lovett and His Large Band” on August 7 at 8 p.m. Four-time Grammy Award-winning artist Lovett, whose live performances showcase a fusion of country, swing, folk, gospel, blues, and jazz, will captivate audience members at the Museum Park Theater. Williamsburg, Virginia

On Thursday, August 8, The Williamsburg Winery will host a Wine Discovery Seminar in their tasting room and wine bar in Merchant’s Square focusing on the best value wine regions. Baltimore, Maryland

Baltimore Restaurant Week, running August 2 through 11, marks the most delectable week of the summer at Harbor East, during which restaurant-goers can enjoy specially priced 2-course lunches and 3-course dinners at a variety of local eateries. Charlotte, North Carolina

On August 2, The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art will host Jazz at the Bechtler: A Tribute to Freddie Hubbard II featuring Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Curtis Taylor and composer and pianist Sean Higgins. Throughout the evening, audience members will enjoy special improvisational style and melodic performances.
