5 Tips to Maximize your Summer Workout

Suly Valdes from Fit Fly Ocala shares her tips and tricks on getting the most out of your summer fitness routine.

TIP # 1. Exercise smarter, not harder

TIP # 2. Stay Hydrated
If you are feeling thirsty your body is well on its way to depletion and not functioning at its peak level of performance. It’s important to stay hydrated before, during, and after your workout, especially as the temperatures rises. Did you know that the feeling of thirst comes around 2 hours after your body actually requires hydration?
TIP # 3. Set a Realistic Goal
You don’t need to set a goal to workout 7 days a week for an hour. It’s ok to workout twice, or even once a week if you are trying to begin healthy habits. Start by setting a goal to walk for 15-20min, by the time those minutes are over, you’ll want to take another lap!

TIP # 4. Workout in the Morning
Working out in the morning will boost your energy and mood, increase your focus and set the tone for an overall healthier day.
Morning workouts are the perfect way to kickstart your metabolism, beginning the fat and calorie burning process. With a more intense workout, your metabolism will keep burning for the rest of the day, killing off calories at a higher rate.

TIP # 5. Dress the Part
With the right attire, it can make you feel the part, motivating you to go the extra mile. Stick to breathable fabrics that wick moisture. What better excuse to go shopping?!

Watermelon, Feta and Fresh Mint Salad 

TSG Ocala Creative Director, Robin Fannon, uses this recipe on repeat during the warm Summer months. A refreshing, hydrating and delicious salad that is pretty enough to serve to guests, and also incredibly easy to prepare.

Ingredients 

*Approximately 6 cups of fresh watermelon cubes or scooped with a watermelon baller

*1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil 

*2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar (a balsamic glaze is also an option)

*Juice of two fresh limes 

*1 pinch of Himalayan pink salt. This really kicks up the flavors 

*fresh cracked pepper 

*1/2 cup fresh mint leaves, chopped 

*1 1/4 fresh feta cheese crumbled 

In a large salad bowl gently mix all ingredients with olive oil and vinegar. 

Serve very chilled.  Makes approximately 6 1 cup servings
