24 Hours with CGU Homes

When you’re in the business of building dream homes for your clients, no day looks quite the same. We got a peek into a “typical” day for the team at CGU Homes, a luxury custom home builder in Naples. From one-on-one client meetings to grabbing lunch on the go, tag along for 24 hours with Jon Lawrence and Drew Hemmer, owners of CGU Homes, and Barbie Kellam, director of marketing and sales.

8 a.m.: Jon is typically the first in the office, arriving before 8 a.m. to get organized for the day. Drew swings by a jobsite on his way in after saying goodbye to his wife and son, and Barbie is right behind him after getting her kids ready and out the door for school.

 9 a.m.: The day begins with a morning touch base in the CGU headquarters on Trade Center Way in Naples. The team discusses current projects (and lots of exciting opportunities that are in the works!) before going their separate ways for the day.

10 a.m.: Jon moves into a job cost review meeting with a Project Manager—“super exciting stuff, I know,” he says—and Drew hops on a call with a subcontractor to discuss roof trusses being installed at a private residence next month. Barbie sits down with the (Scouted!) social media experts at Lemonade Hype to discuss upcoming content and digital initiatives.

12 p.m.: Lunch break! Jon heads to the recently opened Shea’s Lansdowne Street on Naples Boulevard, while Drew opts for a working lunch, as he’s having a rare open window of time without an incoming phone call. Barbie’s sitting down with an interior designer for lunch at Osteria Tulia (a Scouted favorite) to discuss upcoming collaborations.

1 p.m.: Potential clients are in the office to meet the CGU team, explore their portfolio of residential and commercial projects, and discuss the timing of their project. One of many new jobs the team will unveil as season approaches!

3 p.m.: For the last meeting of the day, Drew meets a client for a jobsite walkthrough at Omega Bonita Bay. It’s an important meeting, as the architect, client, and interior designer are all on site alongside CGU’s general superintendent to discuss any challenges for this exciting renovation.

4 p.m.: After finishing up some emails and calls, Barbie packs up and ends her day with The Scout Guide Naples for a quarterly member mingle at Ridgway Bar & Grill in downtown Naples.

 7 p.m.: What a day! After hours, the crew heads home to spend the evening with their families—right now, they are loving Ted Lasso and Yellowstone for some before-bed binge watching.
