TSG Memphis: How long have you been in Oxford, MS, and what led you to own a small business?

Libbie Patterson: I grew up in Oxford, left for part of my professional career, and returned as a mom.  I enjoyed being here when our children were young and having grandparents around to help.  I knew that I would return to art once the children were old enough.

TSG Memphis: What do you enjoy most about being a small business owner?

Libbie Patterson: I enjoy working directly with my clients to create their dream portraits.  My favorite part is revealing to them their final product.  I also enjoy participating in pop-up art events where I meet many art lovers.  Watch my Instagram for pop-up dates.

TSG Memphis: What upcoming or current projects are you most excited about?

Libbie Patterson: I recently met an artist in Florence, Italy, who works primarily with gold leaf and was taught in the old masters way. She offers online one-on-one classes to share techniques. I am currently enrolled in one of her classes. Additionally, I plan to take an in-person class with a plein-air painter based in France. She has trained with Cezanne’s lithographer.

I look forward to incorporating their techniques into my portraits and pop graffiti art.

TSG Memphis: What motivates you to create? Where do you find inspiration?

Libbie Patterson: I do not want to sound too cliche, but I am inspired by everything created. Design elements and color theory are always present, whether it is something found in nature or even the color combination in a magazine advertisement, someone’s outfit, or even a flower bouquet.

TSG Memphis: How can our community best support you and your business?

Libbie Patterson: The best way to support my business is always to try to buy local, whether it’s your local artist or farmer, especially family-owned restaurants.

TSG Memphis: What do you like to do when you aren’t creating art? What are your go-to, favorite local spots?

Libbie Patterson: When I’m not creating art, I am either teaching Pilates at Core Fitness in Oxford, MS, working out, or visiting with my mom and family. Some of my favorite local spots are on The Square–where almost every store is locally owned and unique. I love spending time at Southside Gallery for the fabulous art. I also love Oxford Floral, another artistically-inspiring, locally-owned store that is such a unique spot with so much eye candy. You’ll also find me at all places Mexican for some good guac and a fabulous margarita!
