Welcome back to our regular feature where we introduce you to the local people who bring vision and great living and to TSG Huntsville!

Monica Yother Studio 127 Huntsville AL

Sure you know that MixItUp.Fun is a perfect way to gather, create and celebrate at Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment with just about anyone! But do you know the story behind Monica Yother’s MixItUp.Fun? We sure do—read on and you will too!

TSG: What inspired you to start your own business?

Monica: I am absolutely in love with art, and what is so wonderful for me is that my daughter also loves art, so we share “art time” often. I started this business to give people fun and different ways of being creative even if they have no art experience. I called it “Mix It Up.fun” because we do a lot of mixed media, we use different tools and we don’t always paint on canvas. It’s very rewarding to see people honestly pleased and often surprised at what they create! We have many family painting parties and it’s sweet to see two or three generations sharing time together in front of a canvas instead of a screen.

TSG: What is unique about your business?

Monica: Individual creativity is highly encouraged and supported! I help people express their own ideas not just copy mine. Even if they are all going to paint the same thing, NONE of them will look exactly alike – and that is on purpose! We cater to smaller groups, too. I am just as attentive and excited about a family of four painting as I am about a “girls’ night out” or corporate team building party. Honestly, I just love to share art making!

TSG: When you’re not working, you are…

Monica: Art journaling, riding our horse, (Thea), or enjoying our backyard.

TSG: What does “LOCAL” mean to you Monica?

Monica: Home. Connection. “Local” makes things matter more, because they are closer.

TSG: What is your favorite thing about Huntsville?

Monica: I love the mix of history and future. My husband grew up here, and I’ve been here for over 30 years, so one of our favorite things to do is ride around Huntsville and look at old and new things- old buildings and new ideas. I love hearing stories from way back, but I also love seeing how it’s growing.

TSG: Give us some words to live by…

Monica: We have only today. Let us begin. ~Mother Theresa

TSG: What is on your desk right now?

Monica: Computer, laptop, ipad, my Inkwell Planner (I am a bit obsessed), journals, colored pens and coffee.

TSG: What do you never leave home without?

Monica: Colored pens and paper (sketchbook & planner).

TSG: Is there anything else you want us to know?

Monica: I think sharing time together is important. The parties are about family or friends or even strangers putting down screens and picking up conversations, colors and ideas. There is always laughter, there is always delight in what is being created, and there is always connection. We gather together and celebrate life by creating something new.

Thank you Monica for sharing a bit of your life and business with our TSG Huntsville readers!
