Meet Pauline McFarlin—The Talent and Sweetness Behind The Dessert Fork, L.L.C.!
Welcome to our regular feature where we introduce you to fabulous local business owners who inspire and share our love of Huntsville! This time we chatted with the talent and sweetness behind The Dessert Fork, L.L.C., Pauline McFarlin.
TSG: How many years have you been in (this) business in Madison?
Pauline McFarlin: 3
TSG: What inspired you to start your own business?
Pauline McFarlin: What inspired me to start my business was a love for baking and art. I enjoyed baking and art from childhood and decided to start a business that was a combination of my two passions.
TSG: What is unique about your business?
Pauline McFarlin: We want to create cakes that are customized for the client. We do not make the same cake over and over. It allows the clients’ personality to shine through and the cake becomes a canvas for edible art.
TSG: When you’re not working, what are you doing?
Pauline McFarlin: I enjoy spending time with my family, crafting, cooking, and browsing thrift stores for unique items.
TSG: What is your favorite thing about Huntsville/Madison?
Pauline McFarlin: I like the evolving food scene. When I first moved here in 2008 there was not much variety. Today you can pretty much find whatever you have a taste for on any given day. I love the Farmer’s Markets in the Springtime and am excited to visit the Tulip Farm this year.
TSG: Do you have any hobbies? And tell us why you love them.
Pauline McFarlin: I enjoy making handmade cards and I am exploring photography. I enjoy activities that allow me to be creative.
TSG: Inspire us with some words to live by…
Pauline McFarlin:
Visualize your highest self and start showing up as her. -Lauren Gleisberg
Things that excite you aren’t random. They are connected to your purpose. Follow them. -Unknown
TSG: What’s on your desk right now?
Pauline McFarlin: My computer, phone, a calculator, pens, order sheets, and a BOSS LADY nameplate.
TSG: What do you never leave home without?
Pauline McFarlin: My planner
TSG: Who is your hero and why?
Pauline McFarlin: My Mom is my shero. She was the best mom I could have asked for. I have learned so much from her and continue to admire her to this day. She always encouraged me. She is no longer with us, but her she left behind a legacy.
TSG: What did you want to be when you grew up?
Pauline McFarlin: An Interior Decorator
TSG: Is there anything else you want us to know or share?
Pauline McFarlin: You only get one life to live. Don’t waste it on people and things that do not give you a return on your investment. Invest in yourself!
