Meet the Member: Kelly Richman of Lifetime of Clicks

Guided by the belief that small businesses are the cornerstones of our communities, The Scout Guide Houston connects readers with the entrepreneurs, makers, movers, and shakers that make Houston a vibrant place to live, work, and visit. Our most recent Guide, Volume 6, serves as an introduction to a handful of Houston’s many small business owners. This series, Meet the Members, is both a continuation of that introduction and an opportunity to deepen your connection with these entrepreneurs. Follow along as we chat with Volume 6 and share their stories, inspiration, and motivation. Up next? Kelly Richman, owner of Lifetime of Clicks Photography.

Specializing in maternity, newborn, baby & family photography, Lifetime of Clicks Photography offers a luxury, stress-free experience which includes wardrobe, hair, and makeup for your session, plus custom album and wall art designs for your home. The Scout Guide Houston: What inspired you to take the entrepreneurial leap?
Kelly Richman: During both of my pregnancies, I was extremely sick. Two days after the delivery of my second son, I ended up in the ER with congestive heart failure. I spent the next four days in ICU without my newborn son or six-year-old child. In those four days I realized how quickly life can change, for better and for worse. And it hit me: It is so important to document every single moment, no matter the effort or expense. Moments might not last forever… but with professional, thoughtful photography memories could last a lifetime. And so my adventure began. Previously I’d been in the corporate world, but my boss was very entrepreneurial and pushed me to follow my dreams and believe in myself.

TSG Houston: Can you share more about your journey in photography?
KR: I started my love for photography by capturing my precious boys’ every movement. Before long, I had ventured into family photography and slowly discovered that I could give back by helping mothers that might have been in a similar situation as me. Birth photography became a passion. Now, I help mothers capture moments they can’t with maternity, birth, newborn photography, following them through their family journey. My entire photography experience has been built around enabling your moments to become well-loved (and much adored!) memories.

TSG Houston: What other experiences informed you as you built your business?
KR: As a mother, I get how stressful family photography can be! Moms help everyone in the family look their best for portraits and they deserve for someone to do the same for them! That’s where I come in. My goal is to make family portrait experiences stress-free!

TSG Houston: Aside from the encouragement you received from former bosses, what’s the best piece of advice you’ve received as an entrepreneur?
KR: Everything happens for a reason. I have to always remember there is a greater person watching out for us and no matter what happens in life or business, there is always a reason.

TSG Houston: It’s clear that you recognize the importance of every moment. Do you have advice for balancing work and life?
KR: I wish I had the answer for this! Running your own business means you are every person, doing every job. I will say that when I leave the office, I try my hardest to leave business there and focus on my family.

TSG Houston: As a small business owner, how do you stay inspired?
KR: I am always taking new courses to keep myself current!

TSG Houston: What’s the best part of your job?
KR: Being able to make others laugh and smile!

TSG Houston: We know your studio is located in Katy. How long have you called the Houston area home?
KR: 17 years.

TSG Houston: What’s the best thing about Houston?
KR: All the different things there are to do. There is always something going on!

TSG Houston: One last fun question… What’s your go-to restaurant?
KR: Pearl and Vine!
