CITY CHEAT SHEET: Exploring Jamestown, NC

Jamestown, NC is a fabulous little town in central North Carolina. It sits at the intersection of Greensboro and High Point and is a hot spot for young professionals and young families in our area. You will find a number of great local shops and a nationally-recognized restaurant, Southern Roots, that bring a lot of visitors to this town. Definitely worth taking an afternoon to explore all the nooks and crannies and then grab a bite to eat at one of the many great restaurants in the area.

Black Dog Home and Café // 109 W Main St

A delightful store that is located in a farmhouse built in 1855. In addition to their handmade farmhouse-style furniture, they also have a delightful clothing boutique that has been carefully curated as well as home décor items. While you peruse the options, pick up a cup of coffee or grab a snack from the café.

 Flare’s // 206 E Main St

A fun boutique located in a lovely older home on Main Street, Flare’s carries a mix of trendy but casual pieces that will help you augment your wardrobe. They also have very interesting jewelry and accessories. Definitely worth a stop by to pick up a some fun new things for your closet.

 Potent Potables // 115 E Main St

A great spot to grab wine or beer and hang out for awhile. Great selection of both in the store and very convivial atmosphere. They frequently have food trucks and live music (check their social media for the schedule).

The Soap Lady // 106 E Main St

Love this little spot! All products are made in the USA and from all-natural ingredients and essential oils. The proprietor places a heavy emphasis on other locally made products as well and the store has become a great source for locally made home décor, jewelry, pottery, and art.

If you are into vintage and antique items, this is the store for you! They also carry fun gift items and you will always find something interesting in here to take home.

Blackpowder Smokehouse // 302 E Main St

This is the newest hot spot in town and it deserves the hype! If you like smoked meat, super fresh veggies and amazing desserts – this is going to be your new favorite place. Pork, brisket, chicken, turkey… you have options. And did we mention the smoked gouda mac-n-cheese and the fresh banana pudding?  Yum!

Cakes By B’s Blue House Bakery // 113 E Main St

Located in the heart of town, we always pop in here whenever we drive through town for the amazing coffee and their fresh baked goods and pastries. You truly cannot go wrong and the owners are super friendly.

Full Moon Oyster Bar // 103 W Main St

This restaurant has numerous locations scattered across NC and all of them understandably place a major emphasis on delicious fresh oysters. They have a bunch of weekly specials and lunch specials. We personally love the steamed seafood and the cajun influence throughout the menu.

 Sidwell’s Café // 116-E E Main St

If you are in the mood for classic southern food, this is your ticket! Their tagline is “premium comfort food” and truer words were never spoken. Oven broasted chicken, meatloaf, chicken pie, fried okra…all the classic southern staples. They are currently only open for take-out only but it is definitely worth placing that order.

 Simply Thai // 122 E Main St

We are obsessed with Thai food and this restaurant creates delicious thai food. They also carry really tasty fresh sushi with creative sushi rolls.

 Southern Roots // 119 E Main St

This dining establishment places a big emphasis on supporting local farmers and sustainable agricultural practices and its importance shows in the fresh, delicious food that arrives at your bistro table. They specialize in more upscale southern cuisine and the menu contains an excellent assortment of fresh vegetable sides to go with your entree. We also love their outdoor patio area.

City Lake Park // 602 W Main St

A surprisingly large park on High Point City Lake, there is a seasonal amusement park and pool in addition to a great children’s playground. In season, you can ride the train and carousel, go out on the lake on the pontoon boat. They are in the process of renovating the main pool (reopening Summer 2022), but the reno will include a lazy river and new slides.

 Mendenhall Homeplace // 603 W Main St

This historic site was the home to a community of Quakers in the 1800s. There are numerous structures here to see and they offer tours on Tuesday through Saturday.

A live music venue in Jamestown, they are closed at present due to the NC shutdown. Normally, this is a 21+ venue that has local live music on the weekends.
