Meet the Member: Dr. KaufmanN of Fort Worth Fertility

Integral to The Scout Guide mission is telling the stories behind the small businesses Scouted in each Volume. The story begins in print and continues online, after all. As you peruse Volume 9, we are thrilled to continue our story-telling mission with Member Spotlights.

The process of scouting begins in the community, and we look to the people that live here for local resources, insights, and experts that make our town an incredible place to live. Word of mouth, we have found, is an unparalleled gauge of quality. From builders to bakeries, doctors to daycare providers, locals know best. And when it came to Fort Worth’s best health and wellness resources, locals could not stop talking about Dr. Robert Kaufmann of Fort Worth Fertility.

DR. KAUFMANN’S SINCERITY AND ATTENTIVENESS IS UNPARALLELED. IT WAS SUCH A COMFORT TO WORK WITH HIM DURING SUCH AN EMOTIONALLY AND PHYSICALLY TURBULENT TIME. – Leigh Brown, TSG Editor

We are so thrilled to share the details from our Q&A below:

The Scout Guide Fort Worth: Dr. Kaufmann, we are thrilled to scout you and Fort Worth Fertility for Volume 9. Moreover, it’s a privilege and a blessing to have you here in Fort Worth. For those unfamiliar with you and your practice, can you share a little about your background in fertility?
Dr. Robert Kaufmann:
Of course, and thank you for your kind words! It was during my studies at Sackler School of Medicine (New York State Program) when I first had the experience of witnessing a baby being born and immediately realized this was the path I wanted my medical career to take. I did a rotation in reproductive endocrinology, when fertility medicine was getting its start, and knew I was meant to work in fertility. From there, I received a NIH grant for research in preimplantation genetic diagnosis, and worked at the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine.

The Scout Guide Fort Worth: What brought you to Fort Worth from the East Coast?
Dr. Robert Kaufmann:
After serving as an Assistant Professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School and Division Director o Reproductive Endocrinology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical University of South Carolina, I was recruited to Fort Worth for private practice in 2005.

The Scout Guide Fort Worth: To create a timeline for our readers, a peek at your impressive CV tells us you’ve been in the field since the 1980s, as a researcher and clinical fertility specialist. You’re a fellowship-trained and board-certified fertility specialist and a member of the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility. For those without medical backgrounds, what does this wealth of knowledge, experience, and accreditations mean for patients?
Dr. Robert Kaufmann:
While a physician may offer fertility services, they may not be a fellowship-trained specialist. Board certification as a fertility specialist guarantees the physician graduated from a reputable fellowship program and passed written and oral examinations in fertility medicine. Fertility specialists like myself and my partner, Dr. Biren Patel, have undergone advanced training in diagnosis and treatment of infertility and microsurgical techniques. This is important to note, as studies indicate treatment outcomes are better when fertility specialists are consulted.

The Scout Guide Fort Worth: We’ve heard of countless positive outcomes — or what many Fort Worth families describe as miracles — as a result of your practice. What can patients expect from Fort Worth Fertility?
Dr. Robert Kaufmann:
First and foremost, we create comprehensive, personalized treatment plans for our patients and offer the latest proven medical treatments, most of which are offered at our clinic. Our goal is to carefully evaluate our patients’ cases as thoroughly and efficiently as possible to offer both a clear treatment plan and a clear understanding of all the options. To provide the best possible care to our patients, we have assembled an exceptional group of experts — from Embryologists to nursing staff — many of whom have personally gone through fertility treatments and understand the unique, complex physical and emotional demands of fertility treatments.

The Scout Guide Fort Worth: Can you speak more to this?
Dr. Robert Kaufmann:
In addition to many on our staff, I understand the hardships and rewards of undertaking infertility treatment firsthand. My wife and I are fortunate to have been successful twice utilizing in-vitro fertilization — or IVF, for short. This experience has only intensified my desire to provide the most compassionate, personal care for my patients. Nothing deters us from the goal of helping our patients bring home a baby.

The Scout Guide Fort Worth: This commitment is so apparent, and we can’t imagine how incredibly rewarding it is to help individuals and couples build families. Can you speak to what its like practicing medicine and owning a practice in Fort Worth?
Dr. Robert Kaufmann:
The community in Fort Worth is the best. We get as many word-of-mouth referrals as physician referrals, which is such an honor.
