5 Tips for Organizing Your Laundry Room
When Whitney and Debbie of The Organized Nest swooped in to work their magic on Editor Leigh Brown’s pantry, the Volume 7 experts also doted on the Brown’s laundry room. With a new shelf here and a few hooks there – not to mention a fair amount of clear drawer dividers – The Organized Nest took Leigh’s laundry room to the next level.
Today, Whitney and Debbie are sharing their tips for tackling your own laundry room, whether it’s your family’s designated landing spot for books + backpacks or hiding place for clutter.
Keep It Together
It’s a simple, intuitive first step, but no less important: keep your laundry detergent, stain removers and dryer sheets together. This way, you can easily access everything you need, see when you need to restock and stop buying dryer sheets (because now you know you already have 4 boxes!).
Manual Up
The secret’s out: you don’t actually have to hold on to all those pesky appliance manuals. Everything you need can be found online. But, if you can’t bring yourself to part with the manuals, gather them together and store them on an upper shelf out of the way of everyday use.
One Stop Shop
Your laundry room is a great place to store your utilitarian items. All of them. Gather all the batteries, light bulbs and other such items from around your house and give them a dedicated spot in your laundry room. Keep batteries and other small items in a clear bin with a label. And, just like you did in your pantry, label what you have and where it goes!
Match Making
One of the easiest ways to achieve an Instagram-worthy organizational system is to use clear, matching bins. Unfortunately, the random organizational bins you’ve grabbed while they were on sale and have collected over the years will make the space feel more cluttered. Save money and keep it seemless by purchasing the same type of bin in bulk. If you can’t buy all your bins at once, we recommend selecting a product that will be manufactured year after year. For example, we love the simple clear shoe bins with lids from The Container Store.
Away You Go
Our last tip may be the most important: put clothes away as soon as you fold them! This is an obvious, but it’s the simplest, most fool-proof way to keep your laundry room from becoming cluttered. If you don’t let the clutter build up, it never gets overwhelming!
