Farewell, 2014
2014 was an exciting and eventful year. As the number of TSG cities expanded (we now have guides to forty-nine locations in print!), our team of editors across the country grew as well, and through them our network of unique and talented artists, artisans, experts, and entrepreneurs has become stronger, deeper, and more extensive than ever. In addition to welcoming new cities, we celebrated the launches of the second and third volumes in many TSG locations—occasions every bit as thrilling since we’ve had the pleasure of getting to know the faces behind the places featured in the books, and always look forward to meeting the newcomers shown alongside them. Discovering (and rediscovering) the gems found in our editors’ hometowns across the country, learning about them and exploring what tremendous insights, fabulous items, and unbelievable talents they have to share, and having the opportunity to highlight them here is such a treat, and 2014 felt like the gift that kept on giving.
To celebrate and give the year the sendoff it deserves, we rounded up our most popular posts from the past twelve months; we hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane as much as we did!
Like us, you showed a strong preference for neutrals, including white, camel, and grey.
However, you also appreciated the occasional pop of color—particularly, raspberry tones and sea-inspired shades.
From porches to pools, calming workspaces to cozy retreats, serene spaces were very appealing.
Charming children’s rooms, stylish bars, and an array of kitchen styles also offered plenty of inspiration.
When it comes to accessorizing indoors, adding energy with crystals, interest with antlers or horn-inspired pieces, and art that makes an impact all struck a chord.
Outside, you embraced autumn-ready spaces, and summer-inspired tabletops, and our roundup of elegant outdoor elements.
You enjoyed when we shopped for spring, summer, and fall.
Our experts offered their insights into the auction world, photographing children, and navigating the Istanbul Grand Bazaar, and you took notice.
When our editors provided itineraries for enjoying their hometowns like a local, Charleston, Aspen, and Hilton Head, Beaufort & Bluffton were added to many to-visit lists.
TSG chefs shared recipes for a delicious champagne spritz, a versatile roasted tomato recipe, and a warming and wonderful buffalo bourguignon, which hopefully ended up in your repertoires.
We Scouted a lot of unique items. A footed planter, a pair of vibrant blue vases, a fairy tale-inspired ring, and a fancy painting particularly caught your eye.
We were inspired by words we love from Rumi and many others.
And you joined us in celebrating our first editor’s conference—a truly memorable occasion. Thank you for reading, thank you for supporting your local businesses, artists, and artisans, and thank you for helping us spread the word about the incredible people we are privileged to highlight and the amazing work that they do.
