Number of years here in Denver: 4 years

Please share your Denver story. Can you tell me a bit more about yourself and how your journey led you to where you are today? I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Fashion Merchandising degree.  During my time at Minnesota, I was on the track and cross-country team as well.  After 4 years there, I still had another year of athletic eligibility and decided to go to Colorado State to get a masters in the field of Fashion. While at Colorado State, I started doing side jobs for small businesses creating their social media posts.  Upon graduation from CSU in 2020, the pandemic was in full-force and very few companies were hiring. The good news was that my small side-gig was starting to become a full-time gig as I had a few clients at that point.  So, call it fate but the pandemic really pushed me to switch gears away from my plan to go to New York and work in fashion and instead to start Nesscessity a social media marketing company.

Can you please tell me a little about your business? Nesscessity is a full-service social media marketing agency that takes a hands-on approach to helping brands find their true colors. In a heavily saturated social space, we help customer brands stand out and has done so for a hundred of clients already. We provide customizable social media marketing packages to our customers based on their specific needs.

Why did you start your own business?  I realized during my graduate program that social media marketing was really a new and growing field that had a ton of opportunity.

What do you love most about owning your own business? I love the diversity of work and people/companies that I get to interact and collaborate with.  It’s so rewarding seeing companies of all sizes grow their sales because of the work that we are doing for them.
What inspires you? There are a lot of things that inspire me but one thing in particular is really seeing the impact that our marketing is having on the companies we are working with.

What makes you feel accomplished? I am definitely a check-list person. I start every day with a list of tasks I plan to complete and for me, getting those things checked off and done well provides me a feeling of accomplishment.  In addition, seeing our client’s engagement increase on social media post also gives me a great feeling of accomplishment.

If you could go back in time and give your 18 year old self advice, what would it be?  It’s probably the same advice I have to give myself even today – don’t sweat the small stuff.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work? I still run so that is a great stress reliever for me and allows me some space to strategize and think beyond just my daily checklist.

What trends are you seeing that relate to your business that our readers should be aware of?  It’s no surprise that printed materials are going away and digital marketing is the way of the future – the thing that is important to remember is that you have to capture the audience with relevant, catchy, easy to digest information.

What’s next for you and your business? We are growing our team with marketers that have unique strengths and expertise so that we can provide our client’s with all of their brand and marketing needs, not just social media marketing.
