The Insider Guide to Fourth of July 2024 in Charlottesville

If you’re planning to spend your Fourth of July in Charlottesville, there’s lots in store to enjoy! We rounded up the top things to do so you can make the most of this patriotic holiday week. With the Fourth falling on a Thursday this year, the celebrations start this Saturday and continue from there all the way through the following weekend. Independence Day celebrations


Saturday, June 29th:

Crozet Independence Day Parade & Celebration. The fun starts with the Crozet Volunteer Fire Department parade at Crozet Elementary School at 5pm. The parade goes through downtown Crozet to Claudius Crozet Park. King Family Vineyards is happy to be hosting the Crozet Independence Day Celebration this year following the parade! Enjoy a night on the farm celebrating our Nations birthday. There will be two live bands, wine and beer, activities for the kids, and a wonderful fireworks display to cap off the night!

The gates open for parking around the field at 4pm, and the festivities begin at 5:30pm with the first band. Fireworks will start at 9:30pm. More info here.

Thursday, July 4th:

July Fourth at Monticello. Join the 62nd annual Independence Day Celebration and Naturalization Ceremony at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello at 9am on July 4th, featuring keynote speaker, Misty Copeland. There will be music from the Charlottesville Band, the Charlottesville Opera, the Old Line Fife and Drum Corps and The Virginia Consort. After the ceremony, enjoy root beer floats, concessions and children’s activities on the West Lawn. The event is free, but registration is required for the shuttle up to the ceremony.

Independence Day Concert & Celebration at James Monroe’s Highland. Highland will host the Heifetz International Music Institute for a free concert on July 4th from 2-4pm. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and a picnic and enjoy music from this classically-inspired ensemble. More info here.

Boar’s Head Resort Independence Day Celebration.

The Boar’s Head is serving up an extra dose of “fun for the fourth” while they celebrate Independence Day during the ongoing Summer Celebration Series. Bring the entire family on Thursday, July 4 from 2-9pm, to jam to live music from Lord Nelson, followed by an electrifying display of fireworks that will illuminate the sky.

There will be an entry fee for this year’s event. Tickets are required for entry and must be purchased in advance. Hotel guests receive complimentary access. More info and purchase tickets here.

Happy Birthday America at Carter Mountain Orchard. Gather your friends and family and come celebrate our nation’s 248th birthday at Carter Mountain Orchard from 5:30-9:30pm. Enjoy fresh sun-ripened peaches, apple cider donuts, and ice cream in addition to local food trucks, and adult beverages from the Carter Mountain Wine Shop and Bold Rock Tap Room. Grove to live music from James 3 Band and enjoy gorgeous views over Charlottesville! Reserve your tickets now.

Friday, July 5th:

Gordonsville on Main Independence Day Fireworks. Come out and enjoy a taste of Americana in historic downtown Gordonsville. For the first time, Southwest Mountains Vineyards presents a stunning fireworks display starting at 9pm on Friday, July 5th.

Saturday, July 6th:

Gordonsville on Main Independence Day Parade & Celebration. Come out and enjoy a taste of Americana in historic downtown Gordonsville with a parade sponsored by Gordonsville Ice House & BBQ Exchange starting at 10am. Come out and see parade entries from several of our local scouted businesses! There will also be a crafts market sponsored by Stony Point Development and VA Tractor and fun for the whole family from 11am -4pm. It will be a perfect day to experience the charm of Gordonsville!

And don’t forget about all of our fabulous scouted wineries in the area. Many of them are hosting live music throughout the course of this Independence Day week!
